PV Sindhu has impressed by qualifying for the World Tour Finals of the Badminton World Federation (BWF). She had previously won the title in 2018.
Among Indian players, PV Sindhu remains the first and only Indian to have won the championship at the World Tour Finals, and her record remains unbroken.
Hailing from Telangana, PV Sindhu recently lost in the final of the French Open. As she has moved up to fifth in the world rankings, she has impressed by qualifying for the World Tour Finals.
PV Sindhu is one of the eight players selected for this tournament, which is set to be held this December. The top 8 women players will take part in it. Speaking about this, the 31-year-old PV Sindhu said:
I am happy to have moved up to the top 6 in the world rankings. If you play well, victories come naturally; your ranking also improves.
If you play well and win tournaments, there is no need to worry about the rankings. They will improve on their own. Badminton is always a challenging sport. It is good to remain calm on the court.
From next year, with 15 games per match, everything will be new. We have to adapt accordingly.
I am happy to compete with both the older generation and the younger generation. If we take care of our bodies, we can play for many years.
Many male and female athletes are performing well in their 30s—at 30, 31, and 32 years of age. So I believe I too can reach a high level.
I need to protect my body for the next series. I need to give it a little rest. I am not a young athlete; but we should not forget that 31 is the new 21. So I will keep my body safe.
I’m focusing on the World Tour Finals. Winning is sweet. We know very well the mistakes we make. Earlier, we didn’t know how all this was happening. But now, everything is clear, he said.
2018 Women’s Singles Champion PV Sindhu is officially qualified for the BWF World Tour Finals 2026.
