10-year-old girl Niraimathi and 6-year-old boy Bala Praveen, the children of Mohan and Latha from Achangulam village, died of electrocution on the morning of September 30 while playing near the drinking water purification plant.
It is said that a complaint about an electrical leak at the drinking water purification plant had been submitted to the Block Development Officer about six months earlier through local youths. In a statement issued by Seeman regarding this, ``Appropriate bereavement assistance should be provided to the family of the two children who died after getting caught in an electrical leak caused by the negligence of officials at the government drinking water purification plant near Kamuthi!

I was deeply saddened to learn the tragic news that in Achangulam village, Kamuthi taluk, Ramanathapuram district, an 11-year-old girl named Niraimathi and a 6-year-old boy named Bala Praveen, children of Thambi Mohan and Latha, died after being electrocuted due to an electrical leakage at the government drinking water purification station (RO Plant) in that area at around 8 a.m. on 30.09.2026.
I extend my condolences and share in the grief of the parents and family members who are suffering in unbearable sorrow after losing their two little children, whom they loved and raised more than their own lives.
The Tamil Nadu government must also take appropriate action against the panchayat secretary, the block development officer, and the electricity board official who supported the electricity theft for the RO plant by illegally drawing power without a government electricity connection, which caused this accident, for the past 8 years.

In particular, the village youths had filed a complaint with the Block Development Officer, requesting that the electrical leakage in the RO Plant, which had been out of operation, and had occurred as far back as six months ago, be repaired. If action had been taken then, the lives of these two infants would not have been lost. The Block Development Officer, who acted negligently by failing to take action even after the complaint was made, and the concerned electricity board employees are the primary reasons for the deaths of these two little children.
Accordingly, I request that the Tamil Nadu government provide Rs. 25 lakh each to the two deceased children, totaling Rs. 50 lakh as ex gratia relief, and take strict action against government officials who acted negligently even after a complaint was filed. I also request that appropriate relief assistance be provided to the affected family," he noted.
