Coimbatore: With various problems such as the rising fuel price hike, diesel restrictions, shortage of commercial cylinders, and customs duty crisis surrounding the industrial sector, Coimbatore’s industry has fallen into a crisis.
Due to tensions from the Gulf War, the shortage and price increase of crude oil and gas continue even now. For the past few months, the industrial sector and restaurants have been facing severe impacts. In this situation, petrol and diesel prices have been raised by Rs. 9 to Rs. 10 per liter. In addition, the increase in freight vehicle charges by about 15 percent from today (June 15) is causing further distress to industrialists.
Regarding this, industrialists from Coimbatore said: “We are affected by various problems such as rising raw material prices, power issues, increased electricity charges, labor wage pressure, and the inability to sell manufactured products in the international market. It is worrying that the Central Government has now issued a new order stating that factories should not be supplied with more than 200 liters of diesel. This move will completely cripple the industrial sector.
Small and micro industries are getting employment opportunities through large factories that depend on diesel. These restrictions will disrupt the entire production chain. Such burdens have created a situation where industrial loans cannot be repaid. The demand to at least waive the interest rates has also not been accepted. The central government should urgently find a solution to these crises by speaking with representatives of industrial organizations.
No solution has yet been found to the rise in commercial cylinder prices and the shortage. There is no profit margin sufficient to buy cylinders from the open market by paying Rs. 8,000 to 10,000 and run the business. As a result, many workers are at risk of losing their jobs,” they said.
James, the president of the Federation of Handicraft and Small Industries, said, “Due to the increase in petrol and diesel prices, all industries have been pushed to the brink of paralysis. The rise in diesel prices has increased transportation charges. The Lorry Owners’ Association is increasing rental charges from today. As the cost of raw material production has increased, a situation has arisen in which their prices will also rise. As a result, both the industrial sector and workers are facing severe hardship.”

கைத்தொழில் மற்றும் குறுந்தொழில் நிறுவனங்கள் சம்மேளனத் தலைவர் ஜேம்ஸ் கூறும்போது, “பெட்ரோல், டீசல் விலை உயர்வால் அனைத்து தொழில்களும் முடங்கும் நிலைக்கு தள்ளப்பட்டுள்ளன. டீசல் விலை உயர்வால் போக்குவரத்து கட்டணங்கள் அதிகரித்துள்ளது. லாரி உரிமையாளர்கள் சங்கம், வாடகை கட்டணத்தை இன்று முதல் உயர்த்துகிறது. மூலப்பொருள் உற்பத்தி செலவு அதிகரிப்பதால், அவற்றின் விலையும் உயரும் சூழல் உருவாகியுள்ளது. இதனால் தொழில் துறையினருக்கும், தொழிலாளர்களுக்கும் கடும் நெருக்கடி ஏற்பட்டுள்ளது” என்றார்.
