Speaking to reporters, MM Mani, considering the recently concluded local body elections and the upcoming assembly elections, referred to Kerala as a 'Kerala without extreme poverty,' a statement made by Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan last October. Additionally, he announced that a women's protection pension of Rs. 1,000 per month would be provided to backward women and transgender individuals who do not receive the senior citizen pension. The senior citizen pension had been increased from Rs. 1,600 to Rs. 2,000. Furthermore, for the youth preparing for competitive exams, he had announced generous schemes such as providing financial assistance of 1,000 rupees per month to young women.
However, the CPM's defeat in the local body elections came as a shock to the party leadership. M.M. Mani, a senior CPM leader and senior administrator, commented on this, saying, "People bought things like social pensions, ate well, voted against the government, and forgot to be grateful. Such development works have never happened in Kerala's history. Those who ate well acted accordingly." After facing opposition to this statement, he changed his stance. He expressed regret, saying, "What I said was not correct."

“சமூக பென்சன் போன்றவைகளை வாங்கி நன்றாக சாப்பிட்டு, அரசுக்கு எதிராக வாக்களித்து மக்கள் நன்றி மறந்துவிட்டனர். கேரள சரித்திரத்தில் இதுபோன்ற வளர்ச்சிப்பணிகள் நடந்தது இல்லை. நன்றாக சாப்பிட்டவர்கள் அதற்கேற்ப செய்துவிட்டனர்” என்றார்.
இதற்கு எதிர்ப்பு கிளம்பியதை அடுத்து தனது நிலைபாட்டை மாற்றிய அவர், “நான் அப்படி கூறியது சரியானது அல்ல” என வருத்தம் தெரிவித்தார்.
