English Local body elections in Kerala state were held on the 9th and 11th of the past month. These elections were conducted to elect 14 district panchayat presidents in 14 revenue districts, 6 municipal corporation mayors, 86 municipality chairpersons, 152 block panchayat presidents, and 941 grama panchayat presidents. Elections took place in 23,576 wards across a total of 1,200 local bodies. Elections were held in 100 out of the 101 wards of the Thiruvananthapuram Municipal Corporation. The BJP alliance won 50 wards. For the first time in Kerala state history, the BJP has gained a majority in a municipal corporation. In the 2020 local body elections, the CPM alliance had won 53 seats, but now it has secured only 29 seats. The Congress alliance has won 19 wards. In this context, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, in a statement released regarding the election results, said, "The victory of the NDA alliance in the Thiruvananthapuram Municipal Corporation… A matter of concern for those who believe in secularism. அதில் 50 வார்டுகளை கைப்பற்றியது பா.ஜ.க கூட்டணி. கேரள மாநில சரித்திரத்தில் முதன் முறையாக பா.ஜ.க ஒரு மாநகராட்சியில் பெரும்பான்மை பெற்றுள்ளது. 2020 உள்ளாட்சி தேர்தலில் 53 சீட்டுகளை பெற்ற சி.பி.எம் கூட்டணி இப்போது 29 சீட்டுகளை பிடித்துள்ளது. காங்கிரஸ் கூட்டணி 19 வார்டுகளை கைப்பற்றி உள்ளது.
இந்த நிலையில், கேரள முதலமைச்சர் பினராயி விஜயன் இந்த தேர்தல் முடிவு குறித்து வெளியிட்டிருக்கும் அறிக்கையில், “திருவனந்தபுரம் மாநகராட்சியில் என்.டி.ஏ கூட்டணியின் வெற்றி, மதச்சார்பின்மையில் நம்பிக்கை கொண்டவர்களுக்கு கவலை அளிக்கும் ஒரு விஷயம்.
எதிர்பார்த்தபடி தேர்தலில் இடதுசாரி ஜனநாயக முன்னணி (LDF) பெரிய முன்னேற்றத்தை அடைய முடியவில்லை. அதற்கான காரணங்கள் ஆராயப்படும், தேவையான திருத்தங்களைச் செய்த பிறகு இடதுசாரி ஜனநாயக முன்னணி முன்னேறிச் செல்லும்.
மதவாத சக்திகளின் தீய திட்டங்களில் மக்கள் சிக்கிவிடாமல் இருப்பதை உறுதிசெய்ய, கண்காணிப்பைத் தீவிரப்படுத்த வேண்டும் என்பதற்கான ஒரு எச்சரிக்கையாக இந்தத் தேர்தல் முடிவு உள்ளது. இது மதவாதத்திற்கு எதிரான போராட்டத்தைத் தொடர வேண்டியதன் அவசியத்தையும் அடிக்கோடிட்டுக் காட்டுகிறது.” எனத் தெரிவித்திருக்கிறார்.
