"Dear Brother" Missing
In connection with the birthday of Lok Sabha Opposition Leader Rahul Gandhi (June 19), the congratulatory messages posted on the X social media platform, along with the responses to them, have become a major topic of debate in current Indian and Tamil Nadu political circles.
In particular, the birthday greeting from Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam leader and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin appears to convey a subtle political message to the Congress high command.
In the periods up to the year 2023, M.K. Stalin used to routinely use personal and affectionate words such as "my dear brother" when conveying birthday wishes to Rahul Gandhi. However, the birthday message he posted this year is completely different:
"Birthday greetings to Hon'ble Leader of Opposition Thiru. @RahulGandhi. Wishing you good health and happiness."
Here, instead of the line "dear brother," only the title "Hon'ble Leader of Opposition" has been used.
According to political analysts, this is not merely a routine greeting message; rather, it is a "formal political approach" that reflects the current reality of the alliance. This shift in wording has also sparked widespread discussion on social media.
In response to M.K. Stalin's greeting post, Rahul Gandhi immediately reposted it and gave a detailed reply. In that response, he did not stop with a simple expression of thanks; he also linked it to the current political stance as follows:
"Our shared resolve to defend the idea of India, our Constitution, and federalism will continue to guide us - this is the fight for the very soul of our democracy, and we will wage it together, until we win."
Rahul Gandhi has emphasized here the idea that we must fight together to preserve the soul of India, protect the Constitution, and uphold federalism.
Although there appears to be a somewhat distancing stance from the DMK side, it is believed that he has employed this political subtlety to convey how indispensable the DMK’s support is to the Congress party in the current national political climate.
The key backdrop to the Congress’s sudden approach toward the DMK is said to be the consultative meeting of the 'India' alliance that was recently held in Delhi.
According to information from Delhi media circles, some alliance parties that participated in the meeting brought to the attention of the Congress, especially Rahul Gandhi, certain political developments taking place at the national level. It was discussed there that if there were any changes in the alliance structure in Tamil Nadu, the lack of adequate coordination would be the reason for it.
As a result, Rahul Gandhi has realized how important the DMK’s contribution is in the opposition parties’ ongoing series of struggles against the BJP. Having spoken about this openly at the India alliance meeting as well, Rahul Gandhi has, in continuation of that, also extended the call to “fight together” in his reply to this birthday greeting.
At the same time, Vijay, the leader of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam who has made a new mark in Tamil Nadu politics, and the Chief Minister, also conveyed birthday wishes to Rahul Gandhi. In his greeting in Tamil through the X account 'CMOTamilNadu':

Amid the electoral challenges faced by the Congress party in states like Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, the support of the DMK in Tamil Nadu is very important for the party to remain strong in Delhi.
At the same time, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam leader Vijay has not yet announced any direct stance in support of the Congress or regarding the National Alliance.
