In the case related to the allegation of forged signatures, CID police questioned senior Trinamool Congress MLA Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay on Saturday.
A letter was submitted to the Speaker of the Assembly on behalf of Mamata Banerjee’s camp, requesting the appointment of Radhindra Bose as the Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly. In it, following the allegation made by disgruntled MLAs Ritabrata Banerjee and Sandipan Saha that forged signatures had been put in the names of MLAs, the Assembly Speaker did not accept the letter submitted by Mamata’s camp.
At the same time, accepting the letter submitted by Ritabrata Banerjee with the support of most MLAs, the Speaker appointed him as the Leader of the Opposition.
Meanwhile, the West Bengal government handed over to the CID police the investigation into the allegation related to the use of forged signatures. Following that, CID police have registered a case and are investigating.
As part of this investigation, they went to Sovan Chatterjee’s residence in Kolkata on Saturday and questioned him. Reports say he was questioned for about an hour. Later, speaking to reporters, Sovan Chatterjee said he would extend full cooperation to the investigation. He also insisted that those who made allegations regarding the forged signature should be questioned as well.
