When police arrested members of the Indian Students' Association who tried to take part in a Saturday protest to lay siege to the Governor's House in Chennai's Guindy, a scuffle broke out between the police and the student organization members.
The Indian Students' Association had announced that it would stage a protest by surrounding the Governor's House in Guindy, demanding the dissolution of the National Testing Agency, which was responsible for the NEET exam irregularities, and calling for the NEET exam to be canceled.
Accordingly, members of that organization gathered near the Saidapet court on Saturday morning for a sit-in protest. From there, they tried to march toward the Governor’s residence. At that point, the police deployed there for security stopped the student organization members and tried to arrest them.
Student organization members clash: A verbal argument broke out between the two sides. As a result, the police tried to arrest them by force. At that time, the student organization members reportedly grabbed the shirts of some police officers and pulled and pushed them. This led to a physical altercation between the two sides.
Kindi Police Assistant Inspector Rabi and a few others were injured. Likewise, some members of the student organization were also injured. Rabi, who suffered breathing difficulty, was rescued from the spot and taken to the hospital.
Subsequently, the police arrested everyone involved in the protest and took them away from the scene. They were kept at a community hall in that area and were released in the evening.
Two cases: In this incident, Kindi police have registered a case against 61 people, including 17 women from the student organization, under two sections for attempting to protest in front of the Governor’s House without permission and for assembling without permission.
Based on the complaint given by injured Assistant Inspector Rabi, the Guindy police registered another case against 10 people under six sections, including assaulting police personnel, issuing threats, using obscene language, and obstructing a government employee from performing his duties.
