With a resolution against Mekedatu having been passed in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, such resolutions have been passed many times before. Former Water Resources Minister Durai Murugan said that the Karnataka government will not bow down by accepting this resolution.
Moreover, they will open the dam only when they get floods; until then, Tamil Nadu will become a desert. Therefore, a resolution alone is not enough. An all-party meeting should be convened to convey that Tamil Nadu, as a whole, is opposed.
Amid Karnataka government's ongoing efforts to build a dam across the Cauvery at Mekedatu and Chief Minister Shivakumar continuing to speak about it, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Joseph Vijay today passed a resolution in the state assembly opposing Mekedatu.
Regarding this resolution, former Water Resources Minister and DMK General Secretary Durai Murugan, in an interview with reporters in Katpadi, said,
Such resolutions have been passed many times. The Karnataka government will not bow down by accepting this resolution. No matter how much we speak to them or they speak to us, they will only keep saying that they must build Mekedatu. I have spoken to the then Chief Minister Krishna and to six or seven Chief Ministers after him. Leader Kalaignar has also spoken. So everyone will speak in the same way. Therefore, if the dam is built, even the water that comes now will not come. If the dam is built, only the water that overflows from the dam when it fills will come to us. If you ask when they will open it satisfactorily, they will open it only when floods come. "Therefore, I welcome the resolution. That alone is not enough; an all-party meeting must be convened to show that Tamil Nadu as a whole opposes it."
Moreover, no matter how many meetings are held or resolutions are passed in the Legislative Assembly, the authority over this lies only with the Supreme Court. This is a matter of our livelihood. It can be protected only if we remain united, without any kind of change of heart among parties.
In Karnataka, the parties do not clash with one another. It is here that the scene of clashes is seen. Tamil Nadu as a whole must oppose this. I believe they will do that.
From the first time I went to the tribunal regarding Mekedatu, I have known everything step by step. This is an issue that is mixed with my blood, with our blood.
Passing a resolution in the legislative assembly was not wrong. They should convene an all-party meeting; only then will a solution be found. Not only that, they must argue firmly in the Supreme Court with the right lawyers.
Unless we argue properly with the right lawyers and put the central government under pressure at the right time, we cannot handle this.
This is not the first time Karnataka has drawn up a plan and sent it to the central government. They prepared plans two or three times and sent them to the Union Water Resources Department. Therefore, even if a resolution is passed and sent, Karnataka has to cross six or seven stages. We must stop it before then.
Therefore, my esteemed friend Sivakumar, who has newly come here with great enthusiasm, is ahead in this matter. It is not right to say that negotiations should be held. How can negotiations be conducted after the court’s decision? Therefore, if we engage in negotiations, we will only suffer losses.

மேக்கேதாட்டுக்கு எதிரான தமிழக சட்டப்பேரவையில் தீர்மானம் நிறைவேற்றப்பட்டுள்ள நிலையில், இப்படிப்பட்ட தீர்மானங்கள் பலமுறை நிறைவேற்றப்பட்டுள்ளது. இந்த தீர்மானத்தை ஏற்றுக் கொண்டு கர்நாடக அரசு பணிந்து விடாது என முன்னாள் நீர்வளத்துறை அமைச்சர் துரைமுருகன் தெரிவித்தார்.

இந்த தீர்மானம் குறித்து முன்னாள் நீர்வளத்துறை அமைச்சரும் திமுக பொதுச்செயலாளருமான துரைமுருகன் காட்பாடியில் செய்தியாளர்களுக்கு அளித்த பேட்டியில்,
இப்படிப்பட்ட தீர்மானங்கள் பலமுறை நிறைவேற்றப்பட்டுள்ளது. இந்த தீர்மானத்தை ஏற்றுக் கொண்டு கர்நாடக அரசு பணிந்து விடாது. அவர்களுக்கும் நமக்கும் எவ்வளவு பேசினாலும் அவர்கள் மேக்கேதாட்டுவை கட்ட வேண்டும் என்று தான் பேசுவார்கள். நான் அன்றைய முதல்வர் கிருஷ்ணா முதல் 6, 7 முதல்வர்களிடம் பேசிய உள்ளேன். தலைவர் கலைஞரும் பேசியிருக்கிறார். ஆகையால் எல்லோரும் ஒரே மாதிரி தான் பேசுவார்கள். ஆகையால் அணையை கட்டினால் இப்போது வருகிற தண்ணீர் கூட வராது. அணை கட்டினால் அணை நிரம்பி வெளியேறும் நீர் மட்டுமே நமக்கு வரும். இவர்கள் திருப்திகரமாக எப்போது திறப்பார்கள் என்று கேட்டால் அவர்களுக்கு எப்போது வெள்ளம் வருகிறதோ அப்போதுதான் திறப்பார்கள். “ஆகையால் தீர்மானத்தை வரவேற்கிறேன். அது மட்டும் போதாது தமிழகமே ஒட்டுமொத்தமாக எதிர்க்கிறது என்பதை உணர்த்த அனைத்துக் கட்சி கூட்டத்தை கூட்ட வேண்டும்”.
மேலும் எந்த கூட்டம் கூட்டினாலும், சட்டப்பேரையில் தீர்மானம் நிறைவேற்றினாலும் இதனுடைய உரிமை உச்ச நீதிமன்றத்தில்தான் உள்ளது. இது நமது வாழ்வாதார பிரச்னை. எந்தவிதமான கட்சி மனமாற்றங்களும் இல்லாமல் ஒற்றுமையாக இருந்தால்தான் பாதுகாக்க முடியும்.
கர்நாடகாவில் கட்சிகள் மோதிக் கொள்வதில்லை. இங்குதான் மோதிக் கொள்ளும் காட்சி உள்ளது. ஒட்டுமொத்தமாக தமிழகம் இதனை எதிர்க்க வேண்டும். அதை செய்வார்கள் என கருதுகிறேன்.
மேக்கேதாட்டு தொடர்பாக முதல் முறை ட்ரிபுனலுக்கு போவதில் இருந்து படிப்படியாக அனைத்தும் எனக்கு தெரியும். என்னோட, எங்களோட ரத்தத்தோடு கலந்து இருக்கிற விவகாரம் இது.
சட்டப்பேரவையில் தீர்மானம் நிறைவேற்றியது தவறு இல்லை. அனைத்துக் கட்சி கூட்டத்தை இவர்கள் கூட்ட வேண்டும் அப்போதுதான் தீர்வு கிடைக்கும். அது மட்டும் இல்லாமல் உச்ச நீதிமன்றத்தில் சரியான வழக்குறைஞர்களை வைத்து தீர்க்கமாக வாதாட வேண்டும்.
