Jayakumar, who won as an MLA contesting on behalf of the AIADMK in the Perundurai Assembly constituency of Erode district, and Sathya Bama, among several others who won on behalf of the AIADMK in the Dharapuram constituency of Tiruppur district, have resigned from their MLA posts and joined the TVK. The matter of resigning their membership within just one month of the election results being announced drew widespread criticism. The constituencies they represented were declared vacant. Government officials have begun the work for holding by-elections. The process of checking the voting machines is being carried out under the தலைமையில் of the District Collector.
Erode district officials, speaking about the by-election, said, "Since there are 292 polling stations in the Perundurai constituency, 200 percent of the machines are required. Work is underway to inspect 584 machines and VVPATs in the presence of representatives of all parties. Six engineers from BEL have arrived and are checking the functioning of the machines. The next phase of work for the by-election is about to begin."
