A 7-year-old boy died of a Shigella bacterial infection in Kerala.
The boy, Arjav, from Pookkottur in Malappuram district, had been admitted to the Government Medical College Hospital in Kozhikode since the 12th and was undergoing treatment after falling ill. He had been suffering from fever, vomiting, and diarrhea. Subsequent tests confirmed that the boy had a Shigella bacterial infection. Following this, doctors provided intensive treatment. However, Arjav died on Monday despite treatment there. With this, the number of people who have died from Shigella bacterial infection in Kerala this year has risen to 4.
Doctors said that the condition of three more children receiving treatment for Shigella infection at Kozhikode Government Medical College Hospital is very critical.
138 people affected by Shigella: According to statistics from the Kerala Directorate of Public Health Services, 138 people in the state had been affected by Shigella as of Monday, and the highest number of cases was reported in Kozhikode district.
Shigella bacteria can spread through spoiled food or water. It is noteworthy that those infected by this bacterium may have fever, vomiting, diarrhea, and severe abdominal pain.

138 பேருக்கு ஷிகெல்லா பாதிப்பு: கேரள பொது சுகாதார சேவைகள் இயக்குநரக புள்ளிவிவரப்படி, அந்த மாநிலத்தில் திங்கள்கிழமை வரை 138 போ் ஷிகெல்லாவால் பாதிக்கப்பட்டு இருப்பதாகவுமும், இதில் கோழிக்கோடு மாவட்டத்தில்தான் அதிக எண்ணிக்கையில் மக்கள் பாதிக்கப்பட்டு உள்ளனா் என்றும் தெரிவிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.
ஷிகெல்லா பாக்டீரியா, கெட்டுப் போன உணவு அல்லது தண்ணீா் மூலம் பரவக்கூடியது. இந்த பாக்டீரியா பாதித்தோருக்கு காய்ச்சல், வாந்தி – பேதி, கடுமையான வயிற்று வலி இருக்கும் என்பது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது.
