The court has issued a strict order that empty bottles must be taken back at TASMAC shops. Following this, a modern machine has been introduced from today at a TASMAC shop in Chennai’s Egmore to collect empty bottles. Even when they scan it shakily, the bottle is refused with the message, `Your QR code is incorrect,' which irritates liquor lovers and leads them into arguments with Tasmac vendors. “They still can’t stop charging an extra 10 rupees, and now they’ve put up a machine for that too... and it’s a broken machine at that. No matter who comes, nothing will change,” liquor lovers say, banging their heads in frustration before walking away.
When speaking to the employees of the private company that has installed the machine, they say, 'Since it is the first day, there are some practical issues. This is only a trial run. We will fix the shortcomings soon.'
