Due to frequent power outages in the Nilgiris district over the past month, the public has been suffering.
In the Nilgiris district, dams are built amid the mountains to store water and generate hydroelectric power. Under the Kundah Hydroelectric Project, 845 megawatts of electricity are generated through 12 power stations.
The electricity generated here is taken to Erode and from there distributed throughout Tamil Nadu. When electricity demand is high in Tamil Nadu, the hydroelectric stations here are operated at full capacity to generate power. During times when there are no peak hours, power generation is carried out as needed.
In Nilgiri district, there are no large-scale industries except tea factories. As a result, electricity is not consumed in large quantities across the district. Nilgiri district requires only 70 megawatts of power. Therefore, there is no shortage of electricity.
Power outages usually occur only during the monsoon season, when trees fall or power lines are cut. However, in Nilgiri district, frequent power outages have been occurring for the past month. These outages last anywhere from 10 minutes to more than 1 hour.
Yesterday, Ooty town experienced a power outage for more than an hour. The same situation continues across the district. As a result, business establishments, schools, banks, hospitals, and residential areas were severely affected. Frequent power cuts have caused public dissatisfaction with the Tamil Nadu government.

நீலகிரி மாவட்டத்தில் கடந்த ஒரு மாதமாக அடிக்கடி ஏற்படும் மின்தடையால், பொதுமக்கள் அவதியடைந்து வருகின்றனர்.
நீலகிரி மாவட்டத்தில் மலைகளுக்கு நடுவே அணை கட்டி நீரை தேக்கி நீர்மின் உற்பத்தி செய்யப்படுகிறது. குந்தா நீர்மின் திட்டத்தின் கீழ் உள்ள 12 மின் நிலையங்கள் மூலம் 845 மெகாவாட் மின் உற்பத்தி செய்யப்படுகிறது.
இங்கு உற்பத்தி செய்யப்படும் மின்சாரம் ஈரோடு கொண்டு செல்லப்பட்டு அங்கிருந்து தமிழ்நாடு முழுவதும் விநியோகம் செய்யப்படுகிறது. தமிழகத்தில் மின்தேவை அதிகம் இருக்கும் போது இங்குள்ள நீர்மின் நிலையங்கள் முழு வீச்சில் இயக்கப்பட்டு மின் உற்பத்தி செய்யப்படும். பீக் அவர்ஸ் இல்லாத சமயங்களில் தேவைக்கேற்ப மின் உற்பத்தி நடைபெறும்.
நீலகிரி மாவட்டத்தில் தேயிலை தொழிற்சாலைகளை தவிர பெரிய அளவிலான தொழிற்சாலைகள் இல்லை. இதனால், மாவட்டம் முழுவதிலும் அதிகளவில் மின்சாரம் பயன்படுத்தப்படுவதில்லை. நீலகிரி மாவட்டத்திற்கு 70 மெகாவாட் மின்சதரம் மட்டுமே தேவை. இதனால் மின் பற்றாகுறை என்பது கிடையாது.
பருவமழை சமயங்களில் மரங்கள் விழுதல், மின் கம்பிகள் துண்டிப்பு போன்ற சமயங்களில் மட்டுமே மின்தடை ஏற்படும். ஆனால், நீலகிரி மாவட்டத்தில் கடந்த ஒரு மாதமாக அடிக்கடி மின்தடை ஏற்பட்டு வருகிறது. இதில், 10 நிமிடம் முதல் 1 மணி நேரத்திற்கும் மேல் வரை மின்தடை ஏற்படுகிறது.
நேற்று ஊட்டி நகரில் சுமார் 1 மணி நேரத்திற்கும் மேலாக மின்தடை ஏற்பட்டது. மாவட்டம் முழுவதும் இதே நிலை நீடிக்கிறது. இதனால் வர்த்தக நிறுவனங்கள், பள்ளிகள், வங்கிகள், மருத்துவமனைகள், குடியிருப்பு பகுதிகளில் கடுமையாக பாதிப்பு ஏற்பட்டன. அடிக்கடி மின்தடை ஏற்படுவது தமிழக அரசு மீது பொதுமக்களிடையே அதிருப்தியை ஏற்படுத்தி உள்ளது.
