Former Electricity Minister V. Senthilbalaji has said that war-footing measures must be taken to eliminate power cuts.
In a statement issued by him in this regard, the TVK government, which deceived people by saying “I will bring change” and won votes, has, in its one month in office, given the people who voted for it nothing but deep disappointment. With power cuts lasting 6 hours and 12 hours, people are enduring unbearable suffering and are coming out onto the streets and roads even at midnight to protest. The situation of “no nights without road blockades” has brought the administrative failure of this government to the streets in the state capital as well as in other areas.
The Chief Minister, who made the punchline promise, “I will bring change as soon as I take office,” is now silent. He does not even respond to the power cuts. He does not meet journalists either. The Electricity Minister, who should be answering responsibly, writes one conspiracy theory after another every day and keeps wailing about it to the media. Instead of hiding their administrative incompetence, they are only engaging in diversionary tactics every day, like posting “fake reels.” The minister posts a CCTV video saying, “They are stealing fuse carriers.” Didn’t the minister think that even an ordinary common man would ask: if theft happens during the day, why does the power outage occur at night? If the fuse is stolen, shouldn’t the electricity go off completely? How can it just be left as it is? Instead of solving the problem, the minister spins stories. He is fooling the suffering people. Next, he said, “Hard disks are missing.” The police themselves investigated and said that there was no important information in those “hard disks” that had supposedly gone missing. What connection is there between “hard disk” theft and “power cuts”? Third, he blamed the very employees who are always on the ground with dedication, saying, “Electricity Board workers are conspiring.”
Does the minister think electricity department employees are like their leader, enjoying seeing people and children in distress? Is this how he spins excuses about the power cut to cover up his own incompetence?
The change under the TVK government is nothing but the misery of “schools being given holidays because of power cuts”! It is the suffering of farmers struggling because their crops are drying up without water! Every reason the minister gives about power cuts as soon as he sees journalists only shows that this TVK government is struggling to provide a steady supply of electricity!
But why is the power outage happening? Have the minister, using the officials, or the chief minister, using the minister, held even a review meeting about it? No! Nothing at all! This too is a change brought by the TVK government! The extremely poor administrative failure that has occurred in the Electricity Board within just one month is the change of this government!
It is a fact that every government must recognize: Tamil Nadu’s power demand is increasing every year. The administrative skill of a government lies in efficiently managing this growing demand and protecting the people from hardship. That is exactly what the Dravidian model government led by our party leader did. To put it in figures, in 2021 the peak power demand was 16,481 megawatts. In 2022 it was 17,196 megawatts, in 2023 it was 18,053 megawatts, in 2024 it was 19,049 megawatts, in 2025 it was 20,148 megawatts, and in April 2026 it reached a peak of 20,974 megawatts. Although power demand has increased every year, as long as the Dravidian model government has been in power, we have provided the public with a steady supply of electricity.
As far as Chennai is concerned, electricity demand touched a peak of 4,663 megawatts last year. In 2024, it touched a peak of 4,769 megawatts. Even so, there were no power cuts anywhere. The public was not forced to come out onto the streets in the middle of the night with infants, the elderly, and patients to protest. Is that all? Tamil Nadu is the state with the least power cuts in India. The Union Minister himself praised Tamil Nadu, saying it provides services on par with developed countries.
During the past 5 years of Dravidian model governance, we provided uninterrupted electricity by giving free power connections to 2 lakh farmers. Before we came to power, the Dravidian model government reduced the gap between revenue and expenditure to Rs. 5,000 crore. Numerous projects for power generation, along with the establishment of substations, transmission lines, and transformers, were undertaken. It was only under Dravidian model governance that the administration of the Electricity Board was streamlined by installing 90,000 new transformers and replacing damaged ones!
Therefore, the Electricity Minister should stop using “press conferences” merely to shift blame onto others without knowing the administration, and the T.V.K. government should at least now take action to solve the power outage problem so that the public can sleep peacefully at night, schools do not have to be closed, and farmers do not have to shed tears of anguish.
Instead of doing the job of giving content to Insta influencers, they should try to actually govern. As our party leader M.K. Stalin said, “You can fool some people for some time; you can fool some people for a long time. But you cannot fool everyone all the time,” I urge the Electricity Minister, who is floundering without knowing how to prevent power cuts, and the Chief Minister, who appointed such an incompetent minister and has subjected the people to indescribable suffering, to forget the “reels” and come to “reality.” He said this.

மக்களும் குழந்தைகளும் துன்பத்தில் இருப்பதை ரசிக்க மின் துறை பணியாளர்கள் என்ன அவர்களின் தலைவர் போன்றவர்கள் என்று நினைக்கிறாரா அமைச்சர்? தன் கையாலாகத்தனத்தை வெளிச்சம் போட்டுக் காட்டகரன்ட் கட் காரணம் குறித்து இப்படியா கப்சா விடுவது?

ஆனால் எதனால் மின்வெட்டு நடக்கிறது? என்பதுபற்றி அதிகாரிகளை வைத்து அமைச்சரோ, அமைச்சரை வைத்து முதலமைச்சரோ ஒரு ரிவ்யூ மீட்டிங்காவது நடத்தியிருக்கிறார்களா? இல்லை! எதுவுமே இல்லை! இதுவும் தவெக ஆட்சியில்நடத்துள்ள மாற்றம்தான்! ஒரே மாதத்தில் மின்வாரியத்தில் ஏற்பட்டுள்ள படு மோசமான நிர்வாக தோல்வி இந்த ஆட்சியின் மாற்றம்தான்!

சென்னையைப் பொருத்தவரை கடந்த ஆண்டு மின்தேவை 4,663 மெகாவாட் உச்சத்தைத் தொட்டது. 2024ல் 4,769 மெகாவாட் உச்சத்தைத் தொட்டது. அப்படி இருந்தாலும் மின்வெட்டு எங்குமே நடக்கவில்லை. பொதுமக்கள் நள்ளிரவில் கைக்குழந்தைகளுடன், வயதானவர்களுடன், நோயாளிகளுடன் தெருவுக்கு வந்து போராடும் நிலை ஏற்படவில்லை. அது மட்டுமா? இந்தியாவிலேயே மிக குறைவான மின்வெட்டு கொண்ட மாநிலம் தமிழ்நாடு. வளர்ந்த நாடுகளுக்கு இணையான சேவையை வழங்குகிறது என்று ஒன்றிய அமைச்சரே தமிழ்நாட்டைப் பாராட்டினார்.
கடந்த 5 ஆண்டுகால திராவிட மாடல் ஆட்சியில் 2 இலட்சம் விவசாயிகளுக்கு இலவச மின் இணைப்பு வழங்கி தடையில்லா மின்சாரம் கொடுத்தோம். நாங்கள் ஆட்சிப் பொறுப்பிற்கு வருவதற்கு முன்பு வருவாய்க்கும், செலவினத்திற்கும் இடையே இருந்த இடைவெளியை 5000 கோடி ரூபாயாகக் குறைத்தது திராவிட மாடல் ஆட்சி. எண்ணற்ற மின் உற்பத்திக்கான திட்டங்கள், துணை மின் நிலையம், மின்வழித்தடம், மின்மாற்றிகள் அமைத்தல் என பல்வேறு பணிகள் மேற்கொள்ளப்பட்டது. 90,000 மின்மாற்றிகள் புதியதாகவும், பழுதடைந்த மின்மாற்றிகளை மாற்றியும் மின்வாரியத்தின் நிர்வாகம் சீரமைக்கப்பட்டது திராவிட மாடல் ஆட்சியில்தான்!
ஆகவே, நிர்வாகம் தெரியாமல் மற்றவர்கள் மீது பழி போடுவதற்கே “பத்திரிக்கையாளர் சந்திப்பை” பயன்படுத்துவதை மின்துறை அமைச்சர் கைவிட்டு, மின்வெட்டு பிரச்சனையை தீர்த்து பொதுமக்கள்இரவில் நிம்மதியாக உறங்க, பள்ளிக்கூடங்கள் மூடாமல் இருக்க, விவசாயிகள் வேதனைக் கண்ணீர் வடிக்காமல் இருக்க த.வெ.க அரசு இனியாவது நடவடிக்கை எடுக்க வேண்டும்.
இன்ஸ்டா இன்ஃப்ளூயன்ஸர்களுக்கு கண்டண்ட் கொடுக்கும் வேலையை செய்யாமல், ரியலாக நிர்வாகம் செய்ய முயலவேண்டும். எங்கள் கட்சித் தலைவர் மு.க.ஸ்டாலின் சொன்னதுபோல ”பலரை சில காலம் ஏமாற்றலாம்; சிலரைப் பல காலம் ஏமாற்றலாம். ஆனால், எல்லோரையும் எல்லாக் காலமும் ஏமாற்ற முடியாது” என்பதை மின்வெட்டை தடுப்பது எப்படி எனத் தெரியாமல் தத்தளிக்கும் மின்துறை அமைச்சரும், இப்படியொரு திறமையற்ற அமைச்சரை நியமித்து மக்களை சொல்லொனாத் துயரத்திற்கு ஆளாக்கியிருக்கும் முதலமைச்சரும் “ரீல்ஸை” மறந்து “ரியாலிட்டிக்கு” வர வேண்டும் என்று கேட்டுக் கொள்கிறேன். இவ்வாறு குறிப்பிட்டுள்ளார்.
