Avinashi: Near Avinashi, an incident in which a daughter died after slipping and falling into a well while trying to stop her father, who was intoxicated and attempting to commit suicide, has caused deep sorrow.
Ravichandran (45), a garment worker, and his wife Malathi Selvi (40) live in the A. Kurumbapalayam Chettikadu Thottam area near Avinashi in Tiruppur district. Their younger daughter, Rithika (17), is studying in Class 12 at a government-aided school in Avinashi.
In this situation, Rithika’s father Ravichandran, who had given up drinking for the past seven years, is said to have consumed alcohol on Saturday night. As a result, an argument broke out in the family. Meanwhile, Ravichandran, saying that he would fall into the well and die, rushed toward a well near the house that had been lying unused and without water at a depth of 100 feet.
At that time, the elder daughter Sandhya, the younger daughter Rithika, and wife Malathiselvi, who were present, tried to stop Ravichandran. In the process, the younger daughter Rithika unexpectedly lost her footing and fell into the well. Immediately, Rithika’s parents, with the help of neighbors, informed the Avinashi Fire and Rescue Team and the Sevur Police Station.
The fire and rescue personnel who arrived at the scene descended into the well and, after a long struggle, recovered Rithika in a deceased state.
Following this, Rithika’s body was sent to the Avinashi Government Hospital for postmortem examination. The incident in which the daughter, who had gone to save her father, slipped and fell into a well and died has caused deep sorrow in that area.
