Congress leader Meenakshi Natarajan had filed her nomination as the opposition candidate in the Rajya Sabha election that was to be held in Madhya Pradesh. In this situation, BJP candidate Mahesh Kewat had complained to the Election Commission that Meenakshi Natarajan had not mentioned in her nomination that a complaint had been filed against her in court.
After investigating the matter, the Election Commission rejected Meenakshi Natarajan’s nomination. While Congress leaders have been strongly condemning this, Meenakshi Natarajan filed a petition in the Supreme Court yesterday challenging the rejection of her nomination.
Following this, since there were only three BJP candidates in the fray yesterday, the last day for withdrawing nominations, the Election Commission announced that all three had been elected unopposed.
In this situation, Meenakshi Natarajan's petition was heard by a bench comprising Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra and Justice A.S. Chandurkar. Subsequently, citing the bar under Article 329 of the Constitution, the bench dismissed the petition as not maintainable for hearing, which is noteworthy.
