The removal of three news channels—Polimer News, News Tamil, and Tamil Janam—from the broadcast of the Tamil Nadu Arasu Cable Television Corporation last Friday sparked controversy. As the controversy intensified, Information and Public Relations Department (DIPR) Director Arun Thamburaj IAS was appointed as the Managing Director of the Tamil Nadu Arasu Cable TV Corporation with additional charge.
The disruption in this broadcast was explained as having been caused by a technical issue at Mantra Industries, the company handling the set-top box operations of the government cable service, and it was stated that they had been instructed to rectify it immediately.
In this situation, the consultation meeting that was scheduled to be held yesterday evening between ministers and the news editors of the channels regarding the suspension of the three channels’ broadcasts was canceled at the last minute. At the same time, from this morning, the three channels—Polimer News, News Tamil, and Tamil Janam—have once again begun broadcasting fully on the government cable platform.
