Velumani from the post of Coimbatore Suburban South district secretary. Former minister C. M. SE. M. Velusamy is from the Sengathurai area near Sulur in Coimbatore district. One of the senior leaders of the AIADMK, he has held various positions in the party. He served as the Minister for Commercial Taxes and Housing during the 2001–2006 period. After winning the Coimbatore Corporation mayoral election in 2011, he was also given the post of Coimbatore district secretary. As a result, SE. M. Velusamy began to emerge as a powerful figure.
Amid an ongoing power struggle between C. M. Velusamy and S. P. Velumani, some AIADMK councillors raised a banner of revolt against him. In this situation, in 2014, following a complaint that he caused an accident in Palladam and fled without stopping, C. M. Velusamy’s posts were stripped away in a single day. After this, S. P. Velumani, who became a minister, emerged as a powerful figure in both the party and the government. Later, S. P. Velumani continued to sideline C. M. Velusamy and prevent him from gaining influence in the party. He was also denied opportunities to contest elections.
