The Silver Line, a 'K-Rail' project that travels at high speed from Thiruvananthapuram to Kasaragod in Kerala, was launched in 2021 by the Pinarayi Vijayan government. The plan was to establish a new standard gauge railway track covering a distance of 529 kilometers from Thiruvananthapuram to Kasaragod and operate a semi-high-speed train at 200 kilometers per hour. Currently, it takes 12 hours to travel by train from Kasaragod to the capital, Thiruvananthapuram. The project was designed to cover the same distance in four hours by K-Rail, thereby saving eight hours of travel time. This train will pass through 11 of the 14 districts in Kerala.

கேரள மாநிலத்தின் திருவனந்தபுரம் முதல் காசர்கோடுவரை அதிவேகமாக பயணிக்கும் சில்வர் லைன் என்ற ‘கே ரயில்’ திட்டம் 2021-ம் ஆண்டு பினராயி விஜயன் அரசால் தொடங்கப்பட்டது. திருவனந்தபுரம் முதல் காசர்கோடு வரை 529 கிலோ மீட்டர் தூரம் புதிய ஸ்டாண்டர்ட் கேஜ் ரயில் பாதை அமைத்து, 200 கிலோ மீட்டர் வேகத்தில் செமி ஹைஸ்பீட் ரயில் இயக்குவதுதான் இந்த திட்டத்தின் நோக்கமாக இருந்தது. காசர்கோட்டில் இருந்து தலைநகரான திருவனந்தபுரத்துக்கு இப்போது ரயிலில் பயணிக்க 12 மணி நேரம் ஆகிறது. இதே தொலைவை கே ரயிலில் நான்கு மணி நேரத்தில் சென்றுசேரும் வகையில் திட்டமிடப்பட்டிருந்தது. இதன்மூலம் 8 மணி நேர பயணம் மிச்சப்படும் எனவும் தெரிவிக்கப்பட்டிருந்தது. கேரளாவில் மொத்தமுள்ள 14 மாவட்டங்களில், 11 மாவட்டங்கள் வழியாக இந்த ரயில் பயணிக்கும். 20 நிமிடத்துக்கு ஒரு ரயில் இயக்கும் வகையில் திட்டமிடப்பட்டிருந்தது. அதே சமயம் இந்த திட்டத்துக்காக பொதுமக்களின் நிலங்களை கையகப்படுத்தும்போது பிரச்னை வெடித்தது. 2022-ம் ஆண்டு நிலம் கையகப்படுத்த முயன்ற அதிகாரிகளை தடுத்த பொதுமக்களை போலீஸார் பூட்ஸ் காலால் மிதித்த சம்பவம் அதிர்வலையை ஏற்படுத்தியிருந்தது. கே ரயில் திட்டத்துக்கு அன்றைய எதிர்க்கட்சியாக இருந்த காங்கிரஸ் எதிர்ப்பு தெரிவித்திருந்தது.
மக்களின் தொடர் போராட்டங்கள் மற்றும் எதிர்ப்பு காரணமாக அன்றைய சி.பி.எம் அரசு அந்த திட்டத்தை தற்காலிகமாக நிறுத்தி வைத்திருந்தது. இதற்கிடையே முதல்வர் வி.டி.சதீசன் தலைமையில் நேற்று நடைபெற்ற அமைச்சரவைக் கூட்டத்தில், இத்திட்டத்திற்காக நிலம் கையகப்படுத்துவதற்காக வெளியிடப்பட்ட அனைத்து அறிவிப்புகளும் உடனடியாக நிறுத்தி வைக்க முடிவு செய்யப்பட்டது. கே ரயில் திட்டத்துக்காக மாநிலம் முழுவதும் நிலம் கையகப்படுத்துவதற்காக நடப்பட்ட மஞ்சள் நிற எல்லைக் கற்களை வருவாய்த்துறையினர் அகற்றவும் நடவடிக்கை எடுக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. இதன் மூலம், பொதுமக்கள் தங்களது சொந்த நிலத்தில் தங்களுக்குரிய முழுமையான சுதந்திரத்தைப் பெறுவார்கள் என கேரள முதல்வர் வி.டி.சதீசன் அறிவித்துள்ளார்.
இதுபற்றி கேரள முதல்வர் வி.டி.சதீசன் கூறுகையில், “அரசின் நிலம் கையகப்படுத்தும் உத்தரவு வெளியான நாள் முதல், தங்களது சொந்த நிலத்தை விற்கவோ அல்லது அடமானம் வைக்கவோ முடியாமல் சாதாரண மக்கள் அனுபவித்து வந்த இன்னல்களைக் கருத்தில் கொண்டே இந்த முடிவு எடுக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. போராட்டம் நடத்திய பொதுமக்கள் மீது போடப்பட்ட வழக்குகள் வாபஸ் பெறப்படும். மஞ்சள் எல்லைக் கற்கள் நடுவதைத் தடுத்ததற்காக ஆயிரத்திற்கும் மேற்பட்ட மக்கள் மீது 250-க்கும் மேற்பட்ட வழக்குகள் பதிவு செய்யப்பட்டுள்ளன. இந்த வழக்குகள் அனைத்தும் வாபஸ் பெறப்படும். இதற்காக நீதிமன்றத்தின் அனுமதி கோரப்படும். அதே சமயம் திட்டத்தை செயல்படுத்துவதற்காக உருவாக்கப்பட்ட ‘கே-ரயில்’ நிறுவனம் தொடர்ந்து இருக்கும். மக்களுக்கு பாதிப்பு இல்லாத வகையில் புதிய ரயில் திட்டம் பின்னர் அறிவிக்கப்படும்” என்றார்.
