The Kumbakonam legislative assembly constituency had been under DMK rule continuously for 30 years. Because of this, Kumbakonam was often referred to as a stronghold of the DMK. Sakottai Anbalagan, a member of the DMK, served as MLA for three consecutive terms, maintaining the constituency. He was highly respected by the people regardless of party affiliation due to his active presence in the field. Having avoided major controversies, he faced issues related to the relocation of the new bus stand, which caused some complications. This matter came under criticism as the election approached. Vinoth, who contested in Thavak and won, becoming a minister, is the candidate who ran against Vinoth in Vinoth Thavak.
By defeating Anbalagan of Sakkottai and winning, he made Kumbakonam, known as the DMK's stronghold, his own and attracted attention in the political circle. Although Vijay Saravanan, a senior who won in the Thanjavur constituency and is close to Vijay and a good orator, was widely rumored to become a minister, Vinoth secured a place in the cabinet and was sworn in as a minister in today's cabinet expansion. We spoke to many people familiar with the details about this, and they said, "Although he was new to the constituency, he was well known in the Thavek area because he actively worked in party activities from Vijay Makkal Iyakkam to Thavek."
In the election campaign, the innovative use of hologram technology by him, which made it appear as if Vijay was standing and speaking beside him, attracted Vinoth everywhere in Pattithotti, Kumbakonam. This became the reason for his success, and he became an MLA and is now a minister. The minister's ancestral village is Veppathur, which falls under the Thiruvidaimarudur constituency. He belongs to the Vanniyar community. Since his father passed away, he was raised in his grandmother's house in Kumbakonam. Vinoth, a B.E. graduate, ran a small readymade garment shop. It is said that his grandmother's family owns three jewelry shops in Kumbakonam and is involved in the real estate business.
Vinoth has been engaged in the real estate business. In 2011, he joined the Vijay Makkal Iyakkam and began his journey in the movement. He has held various positions including Information Technology Department member, Youth Wing District Deputy Leader, and Kumbakonam Assembly Constituency Coordinator. It is noteworthy that he has worked continuously for 15 years without any controversies. Being a member of the Rotary Club, he has had extensive connections at multiple levels. During disaster periods such as the Gaja cyclone and the COVID-19 pandemic, he stood in the field to help people with various welfare assistance. Notably, during the COVID-19 period, he provided food continuously for six months.
He diligently implemented all the directives announced by the leadership, including the blood donation camp. It is said that Vinoth faces about seven cases due to the protests led by Chief Minister Joseph. After winning, Vinoth said, "This was possible because of the leader. We have broken the political stronghold that remained unchanged for 30 years and made history. The leader is the foundation of this victory. This is not an ordinary victory; it is the voice of change. My goal is for the people to work hard for the development of the constituency. I will identify what those before me failed to do and focus on transforming the constituency into one without any shortcomings." He is currently serving as a minister as well.
They said, "There is a belief among the people that just as a different method was used in the campaign, Kumbakonam will also be transformed."
