Due to the war being waged by the United States and Israel against Iran, there has been an international shortage of crude oil and natural gas. India has not been spared either. The supply of cooking gas has been affected. To prevent people from hoarding cylinders, new regulations have been introduced to pre-book the cylinders used in households. Hotels have been severely impacted by this. Due to the severe shortage of commercial LPG cylinders used in hotels, the hotel industry in Maharashtra and Karnataka has been heavily affected.
It is said that such a situation may arise in some parts of Tamil Nadu. In this context, the opposition leader and AIADMK general secretary Edappadi Palaniswami stated on his X page, "Due to the war between Iran, Israel, and Gulf countries, there have been various difficulties in bringing petroleum products to India. Because of this, the Indian Oil Corporation has announced a temporary suspension of cylinder supply for commercial and industrial use. They have requested the use of alternative fuels instead of LPG. In some districts of Tamil Nadu, there is already a shortage of cylinders, which has affected restaurants."
I urge the central government to take appropriate measures and ensure the timely availability of cylinders to prevent this issue from worsening. Chief Minister Stalin has also emphasized that instead of creating unnecessary panic among the public, the responsible state government should arrange for the continuous supply of cooking gas and provide concessions to keep restaurants operating in Tamil Nadu. He further urges the DMK government to ensure that Amma canteens continue to operate at full capacity without any hindrance, so that the poor and common people are not affected and food supply continues uninterrupted.
