கடந்த செப்டம்பர் மாதம் ஊழல் எதிர்ப்புப் போராட்டங்களின் போது இடைக்கால அரசை வழிநடத்தப் பலேனுக்கு அழைப்பு விடுக்கப்பட்டது. ஆனால், முறைப்படி தேர்தலில் போட்டியிட்டு முழு பதவி காலத்திற்குப் பிரதமராக விரும்புவதாகக் கூறி அவர் மறுத்துவிட்டார். பின்னர் ஜனவரி மாதம் ரவி லாமிச்சானே தலைமையிலான RSP கட்சியில் இணைந்து, அக்கட்சியின் பிரதமர் வேட்பாளராக அறிவிக்கப்பட்டார்.

ஊழலுக்கு முடிவு கட்டுதல், நல்லாட்சி, வாரிசு அரசியலை ஒழித்தல் மற்றும் அரசியலில் தலைமுறை மாற்றம் போன்ற கோரிக்கைகளை முன்வைத்து ‘ஜென் ஸீ’ இளைஞர்கள் நடத்திய போராட்டமே இந்தத் தேர்தலுக்கு அடிப்படையாக அமைந்தது. தேர்தலில் சுமார் 60 சதவீத வாக்குகள் பதிவாகியிருப்பது குறிப்பிடதக்கது.
