Dinesh is from Manalur Panchayat near Thiruppanandal, Kumbakonam. His father, Sundaramoorthy, has held positions such as branch secretary and trade union organizer in the DMK. In the same panchayat, Kumanandurai, Dinesh works as a water tank operator. There has been a disagreement between Sundaramoorthy and Kumar, the DMK's Thiruppanandal West Union Deputy Secretary, regarding the panchayat council elections. It is said that Kumar, abusing his authority in that dispute, has not paid Dinesh's salary for five years.
Sundaramoorthy and his son Dinesh are lamenting that due to Kumar's actions, without even considering that they belong to the same party, they are facing severe economic hardships. Dinesh, who is fighting for his salary, was asked about this. He said, "We come from a staunch DMK family. My father Sundaramoorthy served as the Manalur Panchayat President continuously for two terms from 1996 to 2006. In 2019, under the reservation for women, my mother Vijayakumari was fielded for the Panchayat President position. Similarly, DMK Deputy Union Secretary Kumar fielded his wife Sumathi. Kumar's side asked us to withdraw from the contest and communicated this through Union Secretary Annadurai."
Dad refused, saying it was impossible, and faced the election. Sumathi won and became the Panchayat Council President. We contested the election on democratic principles. After this, Kumar tried to take revenge on us, keeping in mind what happened during the election. I worked as a water tank operator in Kumanthurai and received a salary of Rs. 4,750. He stopped paying my salary, giving various excuses. Although Kumar was the DMK union deputy secretary, I continued the work of operating the tank. For the sole reason that I was supplying water, he stopped cleaning the tank for 38 months. I brought this to the attention of higher officials and got the tank cleaned.
I submitted a petition to the officials, including the Regional Development Officer and the District Collector, requesting my salary. At that time, the District Collector said to the Regional Development Officer, "Collector, I cannot stop the salary on my own," and immediately ordered the salary to be paid. However, Kumar used his authority to exert pressure and prevented the salary from being paid at that time. After my term as Panchayat President ended, through my continuous struggle, the Regional Development Officer made efforts, and for the past few months, I have been receiving my salary. He withheld my five years' salary solely because I contested against him in the election.
I never expected Kumar to take revenge like this against his own party members. My father has grown old. He has monthly medical expenses. I also have an eye problem. The doctor has advised me to undergo surgery. I am enduring a lot of pain at the Manalur Panchayat office and fighting for my rightful rights. If I do not get the justice I deserve, I have decided to continue the protest through righteous means.
