Three Indian sailors who went missing after a U.S. Navy fighter jet attacked a cargo ship in the Oman Sea area have died.
A U.S. Navy fighter jet carried out a missile strike on the cargo ship MT Setebello near Oman on Wednesday. It was confirmed on Thursday that the 3 missing Indian sailors had died in the attack.
Regarding this, Shipping Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said in Delhi on Thursday: The attack on the MT Chettabello cargo ship is unfortunate. Following the attack, the whereabouts of the bodies of the 3 Indian sailors who went missing on that ship have been found, and their bodies have been identified. This confirms that they have died.
The Central Government will stand by the families of the deceased sailors. The Central Government will provide all necessary support to them. Officials have been instructed to take the necessary steps to bring the bodies of the three to India, he said.
The deceased include Shivanand Chaurasia from Uttar Pradesh, Aditya Sharma from Himachal, and others. The remaining 21 Indian sailors aboard the ship were rescued by the Oman Navy.

Regarding this, the Indian Embassy in Muscat said in a post on its X page, “The U.S. Navy carried out an attack early Thursday morning on the Jalwaer cargo ship, which had been anchored near Oman’s Shinas port. Black smoke was seen coming out of the ship. All 22 Indian sailors on board were rescued with the help of the Oman Navy. We are closely monitoring the situation.”
