Retired Deputy Tahsildar Palamurugan from Rajapalayam in Virudhunagar district has stated that the pillar located at the controversial site in Thiruparankundram is not a lamp post but a land survey stone. Based on the judgment given by Judge Swaminathan on the petition filed in the Madurai High Court bench seeking permission to light a lamp on the pillar at the controversial site on the occasion of the Karthigai Deepam festival, the court ordered that there is no prohibition on lighting the lamp on the pillar at the said controversial site in Thiruparankundram. Amid various controversies surrounding the Thiruparankundram pillar, retired Deputy Tahsildar Palamurugan from Rajapalayam stated that the pillar on the aforementioned mountain is not a lamp post; it is said to be a survey stone called the 'The Oath Light Stone.' Retired Taluk Officer Palamurugan said in an interview, "I saw in newspapers that the stone at the controversial site on Thiruparankundram mountain was reported as a lamp stone. Regarding this, lawyer Vanchinathan examined the survey marks on that stone and confirmed that it is indeed a land survey stone." Based on what Vanchinathan said, the stone with the markings mentioned at the disputed site can definitely be a land survey stone. Furthermore, retired Tahsildar Palamurugan stated, "Such stones were installed by the British when measuring land areas. Especially in the Kalai region, stones ranging in height from about 30 centimeters to 240 centimeters were placed appropriately from lower to higher areas. There are many such survey stones in the western continuation hills of Thiruparankundram." When I went to Pulai, I saw stones like this in the hilly area. The pit area above the survey stone at the mentioned problematic location was created to fit the land measurement instrument. In the Karthigai Deepam – Thiruparankundram rural areas, people pour oil and light lamps on stones like these, so those stones do not become lamp posts. The name of those stones is diorite stone. If the judge had previously inspected the location with the land survey officers and the district collector, such confusions would not have arisen. ஓய்வு பெற்ற வட்டாட்சியர் பாலமுருகன் அளித்த பேட்டியில் கூறுகையில், “திருப்பரங்குன்றம் மலையில் சர்ச்சைக்குரிய இடத்தில் உள்ள கல்லானது தீபக் கல் என நாளிதழ்களில் வெளியாகி இருப்பதை தான் பார்த்தேன். அது தொடர்பாக வழக்கறிஞர் வாஞ்சிநாதன் அக்கல்லில் உள்ள சர்வே குறியீடுகளை வைத்து பார்க்கும் போது அது நில அளவை கல் தான் எனக் கூறியுள்ளார்.
வாஞ்சிநாதன் கூறுவதை வைத்து பார்க்கும் போது மேற்படி சர்ச்சைக்குரிய இடத்தில் அவர் சொன்ன குறியீடுகளுடன் இருக்கும் கல்லானது கண்டிப்பாக நில அளவை கல்லாக தான் இருக்க முடியும்” என்று கூறினார்.
மேலும் ஓய்வு பெற்ற வட்டாட்சியர் பாலமுருகன் கூறுகையில், “இது மாதிரியான கற்கள் வெள்ளையர்களால் நிலப்பரப்பை அளவீடு செய்யும்போது இந்த மாதிரியான கற்கள் ஆங்காங்கே நிறுவப்பட்டது. குறிப்பாக கலைப்பகுதியில் இருந்து உயரமான பகுதிகளுக்கு தகுந்தால் போல் சுமார் 30 சென்டிமீட்டர் முதல் 240 சென்டிமீட்டர் வரை உயரமுள்ள கற்கள் இடத்திற்கு தகுந்தார் போல் அமைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.
மேற்கு தொடர்ச்சி மலை பகுதியில் இது போன்ற ஏராளமான சர்வே கற்கள் உள்ளது. தான் புலாய்விற்கு செல்லும்போது இது மாதிரியான கற்களை மலைப்பகுதியில் பார்த்துள்ளேன்.
மேற்படி பிரச்னைக்குரிய இடத்தில் இருக்கும் சர்வே கல்லின் மேலே உள்ள குழிப்பகுதியானது நில அளவை கருவியை பொருத்துவதற்காக உண்டாக்கப்பட்ட குழி.
கிராமப்புறங்களில் உள்ள இது மாதிரியான கற்களில் பொதுமக்கள் எண்ணெய் ஊற்றி தீபம் ஏற்றுவதால் அந்த கற்கள் எல்லாம் தீப தூண்கள் ஆகி விடாது. அந்த கற்களின் பெயர் தியோடோலைட் ஸ்டோன்.
இது குறித்து தீர்ப்பளித்த நீதிபதி முன்னதாக நில அளவை அலுவலர்கள் மற்றும் மாவட்ட ஆட்சியரிடம் மேற்படி இடத்தை தணிக்கை செய்திருந்தால் இது மாதிரியான குழப்பங்கள் வந்திருக்க வாய்ப்பு இல்லை. மேற்படி பிரச்னைக்குரிய இடத்தில் அமைந்து இருப்பது நில அளவை கல் எனப்படும் தியோடோலைட் ஸ்டோன் தான்” என்று உறுதிப்பட கூறினார்.
