In the Akash Nagar area of Thandalam Panchayat, Kanchipuram district, a rainwater drainage canal was constructed a year ago to prevent waterlogging during rains. காஞ்சிபுரம் மாவட்டம், தண்டலம் பஞ்சாயத்தில் அமைந்துள்ள ஆகாஷ் நகர்ப் பகுதியில் கடந்த ஓர் ஆண்டிற்கு முன்பு, அப்பகுதியில் மழைநீர் தேங்காமல் வெளியேற வேண்டும் என்பதற்காக மழைநீர் வடிகால் கால்வாய் அமைக்கப்பட்டது. வடிகால் கால்வாய் அமைக்கப்பட்ட ஒரு வருடத்திற்குள்ளே அப்பகுதியில் மழைநீர் தேங்க ஆரம்பித்துள்ளது.
இதற்கு முறையான நீரேற்ற மற்றும் வெளியேற்ற வசதி இல்லாமல் மழைநீர் வடிகால் கால்வாய் கட்டியதுதான் காரணம் என அப்பகுதி மக்கள் குற்றம்சாட்டி வருகின்றனர்.
இப்பிரச்சனை குறித்து தெரிந்து கொள்ள அப்பகுதிக்கு சென்று அங்குள்ள மக்களிடம் கேட்டறிந்தோம்.
“மழைக்காலங்களில் எங்கள் தெருக்களிலும், காலி இடங்களிலும் நீர் தேங்கி நிற்கிறது. சில நேரங்களில் வீட்டு வாசலில்கூட நீர் தேங்கி கிடக்கிறது. மழைநீரோடு கழிவு நீர், குப்பைகளும் கலந்து வருவதால் சுகாதாரமற்ற நிலை நிலவுகிறது. இதனால் இங்கு இருக்கிற குழந்தைகளும் பெண்களும் அதிகமாக பாதிக்கப்படுகின்றனர். இப்படி நீர் தேங்கி நிற்பதால், தொற்று நோய் பரவும் அபாயமும் இருக்கிறது. தற்போது மறுபடியும் இந்தப் பகுதியில் இன்னொரு மழைநீர் வடிகால் அமைத்து, அதை ஏற்கெனவே இருக்கும் கால்வாயுடன் இணைக்கிறார்கள். ஏற்கெனவே சரியான வடிகால் வசதி இல்லாத நிலையில், கூடுதலாக இன்னொரு கால்வாய் அமைத்து, அதனுடைய நீரும் இந்தக் கால்வாயுடன் தேங்கி வெளியேறாமல் இருப்பதற்கான வாய்ப்பு அதிகமாக இருக்கிறது.

மழைக்காலங்களில் நீர் தேக்கம் மற்றும் சாலை மட்ட உயர்வு ஆகிய இரண்டும் இணைந்து நிலைமை மேலும் மோசமடையக்கூடும். சுகாதாரமற்ற சூழலில் வாழ வேண்டிய கட்டாயத்தில் இருக்கும் இந்த மக்களுக்கு நிரந்தர தீர்வு எப்போது கிடைக்கும்? தொற்றுநோய்கள் பரவுவதற்கு முன்பே சம்பந்தப்பட்ட துறை அதிகாரிகள் ஆய்வு செய்து, முறையான வடிகால் அமைத்து, நீர் வெளியேற்ற வசதிகளை ஏற்படுத்துவார்களா?
