"Unbearable foul smell; is this an international airport?" – P. Chidambaram's outrage
Regarding Chennai Airport, senior Congress leader P. Chidambaram has posted an entry on his ex-site page. In his post, he stated, "When exiting the main lobby of the 4th terminal of Chennai Airport and coming out onto the road, there is an unbearable foul smell. Has neither the airport manager, the officials of the Airports Authority of India (AAI), nor the employees noticed this odor? How can this be considered an international airport?"
In response, the Chennai Airport authorities have provided an explanation. "Measures are being taken to ensure that passengers do not face any inconvenience. The garbage removal truck operates even during times of low crowd and at night. That truck had just passed through that area 10 minutes ago. Therefore, the foul smell may have originated there. Our 24-hour duty managers continuously monitor and ensure maintenance of that area," it has been stated.

விமான நிலைய மேலாளரோ, இந்திய விமான நிலைய ஆணைய (AAI) அதிகாரிகளோ அல்லது ஊழியர்களோ யாரும் இந்த துர்நாற்றத்தை கவனிக்கவில்லையா? இது எப்படி ஒரு சர்வதேச விமான நிலையமாக இருக்க முடியும்?” என்று கேள்வி எழுப்பியிருக்கிறார்.
இதற்கு சென்னை விமான நிலைய தரப்பில் இருந்தும் இதற்கு விளக்கம் அளிக்கப்பட்டிருக்கிறது.
“பயணிகளுக்கு சிரமம் ஏற்படாத வகையில், கூட்டம் குறைவாக இருக்கும் நேரங்களிலும், இரவு நேரங்களிலும் குப்பைகளை அகற்றும் லாரி இயக்கப்படுகிறது. அந்த லாரி, 10 நிமிடங்களுக்கு முன்புதான் அந்தப் பகுதியைக் கடந்து சென்றது.
அதனால், துர்நாற்றம் அங்கே வீசியிருக்கலாம். எங்களுடைய 24 மணி நேர பணி மேலாளர்கள், அந்தப் பகுதியைத் தொடர்ந்து கண்காணித்து, பராமரிப்பை உறுதி செய்கிறார்கள்” என்று தெரிவிக்கப்பட்டிருக்கிறது.
