When asked the passengers there about this, they said, "Kumbakonam bus station is a very important place. Nearly more than 1,000 passengers come and go here daily. We do not have proper restroom facilities here. None of the basic amenities that a bus station should have are properly available here. Even the places where people stand to wait for buses are full of potholes and pits. This is not acceptable even on normal days. With a little rain, the area turns into a swamp. Not only passengers but also the traders doing business here are greatly affected." Many people have suffered here because they cannot conduct business in the rainwater that accumulates.
The unused nursing room: There is no place here for a child to be breastfed in an emergency. In 2015, then Chief Minister Jayalalithaa established nursing rooms at bus stations throughout Tamil Nadu, including one in Kumbakonam. This room had all facilities like two electric fans, chairs, and electric lights. But now, for some time, this nursing room has been locked and unused. The reason is that the glass panels around the room are broken, and the electric wires are in a dangerous condition without the lights working. Many mothers come here. There is not even space for a child to relieve hunger; it is difficult. The government must fix this quickly.
The toilets are unusable and emit a foul smell: the free toilets are only next to the breastfeeding rooms. But whether they exist or not, it makes no difference. At the Kumbakonam bus station, there are modern paid toilets. But the public toilets in that area are locked and not in use. There is one free toilet for men. The toilet for women is locked and unclean. Not only locked, but garbage is also dumped at the entrance of the toilet. Because of this, there is a strong foul smell. கும்பகோணம் மாநகராட்சி புதிய பேருந்து நிலையத்தில் போதுமான வசதிகள் இல்லையென்று மக்கள் தொடர்ந்து அவதியுற்று வருகின்றனர்.
இதுகுறித்து அங்கிருந்த பயணிகளிடம் கேட்கும் போது,
” கும்பகோணம் பேருந்து நிலையம் மிக முக்கியமான இடம். இங்க ஒரு நாளைக்கு கிட்டத்தட்ட 1000ற்கும் மேற்பட்ட பயணிகள் தினமும் வந்து போறோம். எங்களுக்கு இங்க முறையான கழிவறை வசதி இல்லை. ஒரு பேருந்து நிலையத்துல இருக்க வேண்டிய எந்தவிதமான அடிப்படை வசதியுமே இங்க முறையா இல்லை. பேருந்துக்காக நிற்கிற இடங்களில் கூட குண்டும் குழியுமாக தான் இருக்கு. இது சாதாரண நாட்கள்ல கூட பரவாயில்லை. கொஞ்சம் மழை பெஞ்சாக்கூட அந்த இடமே குட்டையா மாறிடுது.
இங்க பயணிகள் மட்டுமில்லாம வியாபாரம் செய்ற வியாபாரிகள் கூட அதிகமா பாதிக்கப்படுறாங்க. இங்க தேங்கி இருக்கிற மழைத்தண்ணியில வியாபாரம் பண்ண முடியாம நிறைய பேர் கஷ்டப்பட்டு இருக்காங்க.

இங்கே அவசரத்துக்கு குழந்தைக்கு பாலூட்ட கூட இடம் இல்லை. 2015 ஆம் ஆண்டு அப்போதைய முதல்வர் ஜெயலலிதா அவர்கள் தமிழக முழுவதும் பேருந்து நிலையங்களில் பாலூட்டும் அறையினை வைத்தார். அதில் கும்பகோணமும் ஒன்று. இங்கு 2 மின்விசிறி, நாற்காலி, மின்விளக்குன்னு எல்லா வசதியும் இருந்துச்சு. ஆனா இப்போ கொஞ்ச காலமா இந்த பாலூட்டும் அறை பயன்பாடு இல்லாம பூட்டியே கிடக்கு. காரணம் என்னான்னு பார்த்தா அறையைச் சுற்றி அமைக்கப்பட்ட கண்ணாடிகள் உடைந்து, மின்விளக்குகள் எல்லாம் எரியாம வயர்கள் ஆபத்தான நிலையில் இருக்குது. இங்கு ஏராளமானோர் தாய்மார்களும் வராங்க. ஒரு குழந்தைக்கு பசிய ஆத்தக் கூட இடம் இல்லாமல் இருக்கிறது சிரமமா இருக்கு. அரசு இத சீக்கிரமாவே சரி செய்யணும்.

கும்பகோணம் புதிய பேருந்து நிலையத்துக்கு எதிரில் உள்ள பேருந்து நிலையத்தில் மினி பேருந்துகள் நிக்கிற இடம் இருக்கு. அந்த மினிபஸ் நிக்கிற இடத்துல ரோடு குண்டும் குழியுமா இருக்குது. சாதாரண நாள் கூட பரவாயில்லை. ஆனா கொஞ்சம் மழை பெஞ்ச உடனே இங்க ஒரு குட்டி குளமே உருவாகிடுது. இங்கு பேருந்துக்காக நிற்கிற பயணிகளுக்கு இந்த இடம் மிகவும் சிரமத்தை ஏற்படுத்துது. இந்த இடத்துல தண்ணீர் தேங்கி இருப்பதினால எங்களால பஸ்ல கூட சரியா ஏற முடியல. நடக்கிற இடத்துல கரண்ட் ஒயர் கட் ஆகி விழுந்தா கூட தெரியாது. அந்த அளவு தண்ணீர் தேங்கிய படியே இருக்குது.
தொற்று நோய் பரவும் அபாயம்:
இந்தப் பேருந்து நிலையத்தில் உள்ள கழிவறை குப்பைகள் எல்லாம் மழைத் தண்ணீரோட ஒண்ணா கலக்குது. மழைத் தண்ணீரும் கொஞ்சம் கூட வற்றாம அப்படியே தெப்பம் போல தேங்கி தான் இருக்கு.
இங்க குழந்தைகள் முதல் முதியோர்கள் வரை ஏராளமானோர் பயணிக்கிறாங்க. இந்த கழிவு நீர் தேக்கத்தால் தொற்று நோய்கள் வரக்கூடிய வாய்ப்பு இருக்கு. இந்த சாலையையும் அரசு உடனடியாக சரி செய்யனும்னு கேட்டுக்குறோம்.
இந்த ஊரில் இப்படி பராமரிப்பு இல்லாமல் இருக்கிறது ரொம்பவும் கஷ்டத்தை ஏற்படுத்துது. இந்த ஊருக்கு ஒரு நாளைக்கு ஆயிரத்துக்கும் மேற்பட்ட மக்கள் வந்து போறாங்க. அப்படிப்பட்ட இந்த ஊரில அடிப்படை வசதியான பாலூட்டும் அறை மற்றும் கழிவறை வசதி இல்லங்குறது பெரும் துன்பத்தை ஏற்படுத்துகிறது. இதை எல்லாம் அரசு விரைந்து சரி செய்யனும். இதுதான் நாங்க அரசுக்கு முன் வைக்கிற கோரிக்கையாகும். விரைவில் பாலூட்டும் அறை மற்றும் கழிவறை புணரமைக்கப்பட்டு பயன்பாட்டுக்கு வரும் என்று நாங்க நம்புறோம்” என்கிறார்கள் பயணிகள்.
