Karur: CBI officials, who resumed their investigation into the Karur tragedy, are conducting inquiries on Friday morning with Satish Kumar, who served as the Pasupathipalayam police inspector, and Aarthi, who served as the assistant police inspector.
During the election campaign of TVK leader and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Joseph Vijay in Karur Velusamypuram on Sept. 27, 2025, 41 people died in a stampede. In connection with this, as per the Supreme Court’s order, CBI officials registered a case and conducted inquiries with the relatives of those who died in the stampede, those affected by it, the police personnel who were on security duty there during the stampede, and several others.
Meanwhile, since the 2026 Assembly election was announced, CBI officials had suspended their investigation for more than two months.
In this situation, Karur Vengamedu Police Inspector Syed Ali, who had already been summoned for questioning by the CBI, along with Vangal (in-charge) Police Inspector, Karur city police station Assistant Inspector Ramesh, and 8 police personnel, appeared for questioning on Thursday morning before the two CBI officers staying at the Public Works Department-owned guest house in Karur. The questioning, which began at 10 a.m., lasted for about 3 hours.
In this situation, Satishkumar, who had already been summoned by the CBI for questioning and had served as the Inspector of the Karur Pasupathipalayam Police Station, and Aarthi, who had served as the Assistant Inspector of Police, appeared before CBI officials for questioning at around 10:50 a.m. on Friday. CBI officials are questioning them.
After an interval of about two months, the fact that CBI officials have begun and are conducting the investigation into the Karur tragedy has created great anticipation among social welfare activists.
