Coimbatore: A judge has sentenced two people to 10 years in prison each for running an emu farm in Coimbatore and cheating people out of Rs. 2.37 crore.
In the Periyamanali area of Tiruchengode in Namakkal district, Chandrasekaran (48) and Somasundaram (55) had been running an emu farm since 2012. Trusting the attractive schemes they announced to lure customers, hundreds of people invested lakhs of rupees. However, they did not pay the promised profits to the investors. They also did not return the invested money.
As a result, the affected people filed complaints with the Namakkal district Economic Offences Wing police. During the investigation, it was found that a total of Rs. 2 crore 37 lakh 98 thousand had been collected from 115 people through fraud. Following this, the police registered a case against the farm owners Chandrasekaran, Somasundaram, cashier Amudha, and partners Ramakrishnan and Anandan under sections including fraud.
In this case, which had been going on in the Coimbatore Donbit court, Judge Senthil Kumar delivered the verdict the day before yesterday. In it, since the charges were proven, the judge ordered 10 years’ imprisonment each for Chandrasekaran and Somasundaram, along with a fine of Rs. 1 crore 3 lakh 80 thousand. The other three were acquitted.

நாமக்கல் மாவட்டம் திருச்செங்கோட்டில் உள்ள பெரியமணலி பகுதியில் கடந்த 2012-ம் ஆண்டு ஈமுக்கோழி பண்ணையை சந்திரசேகரன்(48), சோமசுந்தரம்(55) ஆகியோர் நடத்தி வந்தனர். வாடிக்கையாளர்களை கவர இவர்கள் அறிவித்த கவர்ச்சி திட்டங்களை நம்பி, நூற்றுக்கணக்கான மக்கள் லட்சக்கணக்கில் பணம் செலுத்தினர். ஆனால், அறிவித்தபடி முதலீட்டாளர்களுக்கு லாப தொகையை கொடுக்கவில்லை. முதலீடு செய்த பணத்தையும் திரும்ப தரவில்லை.
இதனால் பாதிக்கப்பட்டவர்கள் நாமக்கல் மாவட்ட பொருளாதார குற்றப்பிரிவு போலீஸாரிடம் புகார் அளித்தனர். விசாரணையில், மொத்தம் 115 பேரிடம் ரூ.2 கோடியே 37 லட்சத்து 98 ஆயிரம் வசூலித்து மோசடி செய்தது தெரியவந்தது. இதையடுத்து, பண்ணை உரிமையாளர்கள் சந்திரசேகரன், சோமசுந்தரம், காசாளர் அமுதா, பங்குதாரர்கள் ராமகிருஷ்ணன், ஆனந்தன் ஆகியோர் மீது மோசடி உள்ளிட்ட பிரிவுகளில் போலீஸார் வழக்குப் பதிந்தனர்.
கோவை டான்பிட் நீதிமன்றத்தில் நடைபெற்று வந்த இந்த வழக்கில், நேற்று முன்தினம் நீதிபதி செந்தில் குமார் தீர்ப்பளித்தார். அதில், குற்றச்சாட்டு நிரூபிக்கப்பட்டதால் சந்திரசேகரன், சோமசுந்தரம் ஆகியோருக்கு தலா 10 ஆண்டு சிறை தண்டனை மற்றும் ரூ.1 கோடியே 3 லட்சத்து 80 ஆயிரம் அபராதம் விதித்து நீதிபதி உத்தரவிட்டார். மற்ற மூவரும் விடுவிக்கப்பட்டனர்.
