Tiruppur: In 2005, near Vellakkovil Kallamadai, which was part of the unified Erode district, 1.90 acres of land were purchased through the DMK corporation and Vijayakanth Welfare Trust. It was decided to divide and distribute this land as house plots to beneficiaries. Similarly, 1.10 acres of land were purchased in the Sathiyamangalam area. The land was registered in the name of the then DMK district head Chandiragumar, and the power of attorney was written in the name of the state treasurer of the corporation. A total of 75 house plots, each measuring two and a half cents, were divided, with 33 plots initially distributed, while about one acre of land remained undistributed. The area was also named Vijayakanth Nagar. The court has ordered that the land acquired to be given to the public should be returned to the DMK.
