Former Minister P.T.R. Palanivel Thiagarajan contested from the Madurai Central constituency and faced defeat. In this context, he has released a statement on the X platform saying that he is going to take a short break. In it, he said, "Ten years ago, I left a long-term job abroad with the intention of working for social progress and improving people's lives and entered electoral politics. In my first interview itself, I said that awareness should be raised about the history of the Social Justice Movement and its contributions during the Justice Party era, and more actions should be taken for the people of Madurai."
I had stated three personal goals: to establish a good future for my family. Additionally, I had the intention that after reaching the age of 60, ten years later, I would retire from political life and return to an international lifestyle as I had before 2016. I am satisfied that I have brought about change in various ways for my party, the Madurai Central constituency, and Tamil Nadu as a minister. I have largely fulfilled my three personal goals. However, I was unable to fully complete many of the projects and reforms I initiated, including in the areas of finance and human resource management.
Many of the changes initiated during my time in the Information Technology and Digital Services department have yet to be fully realized. Comprehensive underground drainage and stormwater drainage projects for P.T. Armdurai, the relocation of the central prison, and projects like the Madurai Metro could not be completed. Therefore, I postponed my plan to retire from politics in 2026 and requested the opportunity to contest the elections again. I was hopeful that, once re-elected and serving as a minister, I could complete the work I had started. However, due to the election results, that plan has now been deferred. Nevertheless, I would like to document some of the impacts I have made during this 10-year public service journey.
In 2017, my leader asked me to set up the DMK Information Technology team. At that time, I introduced a new method of selecting talented individuals by receiving applications and conducting interviews. We traveled thousands of kilometers across Tamil Nadu and created the party's youngest and most talented team. Our efforts greatly enhanced the party's online campaign strength. We conducted the entire online campaign for the 2019 elections using many innovative methods. In 2021, we operated by integrating television and print media campaigns as well.
In both elections, the dominance of the website was a key factor in the alliance's victory. As the MLA of Madurai Central constituency, P.T.R. Palanivel Thiagarajan, we implemented over 250 constituency development projects. I thank Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, who entrusted me with the Finance Department when I was a minister for the first time. From the beginning, I tried to operate on a new path. During this period, I have completed several important infrastructure projects in Madurai, including the Korippalayam and Vandiyur flyovers, Vandiyur Park, and the 9-story housing project in Subramaniapuram.
Based on the work I have done over the past 10 unexpected years of failure, I did not expect to fail. Evidence of the work I have done in the constituency is everywhere. I received information that there were errors in the nomination papers of my opponents. However, not wanting to disrupt the democratic process, I did not raise legal challenges. I take pride in having contested the election without buying votes or engaging in false propaganda. I am always grateful to the 44,286 people who voted for me. I thought a new political era would begin if Thavega Vijay T.V.K received 25% of the votes. But I did not expect it to go up to 35%.
Change is inevitable. Even though the DMK government is established in Tamil Nadu, it is the government of the people of Tamil Nadu. I extend my greetings to the new Chief Minister Vijay and his cabinet members. The mindset of continuing old practices in the government machinery must be changed, and new reforms should be introduced. Otherwise, progress will be hindered. இந்த கால கட்டத்தில் மதுரையில் பல முக்கிய கட்டமைப்பு திட்டங்களான கோரிப்பாளையம் மற்றும் வண்டியூர் மேம்பாலங்கள், வண்டியூர் பூங்கா, சுப்பிரமணியபுரம் 9 மாடி குடியிருப்பு திட்டம் ஆகியவை செய்து முடித்துள்ளேன்.
எதிர்பார்க்காத தோல்வி
கடந்த 10 ஆண்டுகளில் செய்த பணிகளின் அடிப்படையில் நான் தோல்வியடையுவேன் என்று எதிர்பார்க்கவில்லை. தொகுதியில் நான் செய்த பணிகளுக்கான ஆதாரங்கள் எங்கும் இருக்கின்றன.
என் எதிரணியினரின் வேட்பு மனுக்களில் தவறுகள் இருந்ததாக தகவல் கிடைத்தது. இருந்தாலும், ஜனநாயக செயல்முறையை பாதிக்க விரும்பாமல் நான் சட்டரீதியான சவால்களை முன்வைக்கவில்லை.
நான் பணம் கொடுத்து வாக்கு வாங்காத ஒருவராகவும், பொய்ப் பிரச்சாரம் செய்யாத ஒருவராகவும் தேர்தலை சந்தித்தேன் என்பதில் பெருமை கொள்கிறேன். எனக்கு வாக்களித்த 44,286 மக்களுக்கும் நான் என்றும் நன்றியுள்ளவன்.

சிறிய ஓய்வு
10 ஆண்டுகள் தொடர்ந்து பொதுச்சேவையில் இருந்த பிறகு, சில வாரங்கள் தனிப்பட்ட ஓய்வெடுக்க விரும்புகிறேன். முன்பு நேரமின்மையால் செல்ல முடியாத இடங்களுக்கு பயணம் செய்யவும், புத்தகம் எழுதவும், உடல்நலத்தை கவனிக்கவும் இந்த நேரத்தை பயன்படுத்தப் போகிறேன்.
