In the recently concluded Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly election, the DMK faced defeat, while the TMC emerged as the party winning the most seats. However, the TMC did not secure enough seats to form a majority government. Out of the total 234 constituencies, a party needs to win 118 seats to establish a majority government. The TMC, led by Rahul Gandhi and Vijay, won only 108 seats as a single party. Since the party did not secure the required majority seats, there were reports that the TMC was seeking support from the Congress. Officially, the Congress has announced that it will support the TMC to form the government.
After this announcement, Congress MLAs met Vijay in person and gave him a letter of support. Along with them, Praveen Chakravarthy, Krish Sodankar, Selvap Perundagai, and others also went and expressed their support to Tavek leader Vijay.
