தமிழ்நாடு சட்டமன்றத் தேர்தல் கடந்த 23ஆம் தேதி ஒரே கட்டமாக நடந்து முடிந்தது. தவிர இரண்டு கட்டங்களாக வாக்குப் பதிவு நடக்கும் மேற்குவங்கம் மாநிலத்திற்கு முதற்கட்ட வாக்குப் பதிவு கடந்த 23ஆம் தேதி முடிவடைந்த நிலையில், இரண்டாம் கட்ட வாக்குப் பதிவு இன்று (ஏப்ரல் 29) நடைபெறுகிறது.
தமிழகத்தை பொறுத்தவரை கடந்த மார்ச் 30ஆம் தேதி தேர்தலுக்கான வேட்புமனு தாக்கல் தொடங்கியது. இதற்கிடையில் கூட்டணி கட்சிகள் உடன் பேச்சுவார்த்தை, சீட் ஒதுக்கீடு, தொகுதி பங்கீடு, வேட்பாளர்கள் அறிவிப்பு என களம் சூடுபிடித்தது.
ஏப்ரல் 6ஆம் தேதி வேட்புமனு தாக்கல் நிறைவு பெற்றது. பின்னர் இறுதி வேட்பாளர் பட்டியல் அறிவிக்கப்பட்டு அரசியல் களம் சூடுபிடித்தது. இதன் தொடர்ச்சியாக ஏப்ரல் 23 அன்று வாக்குப்பதிவு நடந்தது. தமிழ்நாட்டில் நடந்த 234 தொகுதிகளுக்கான சட்டமன்றத் தேர்தலில் இதுவரை இல்லாத வகையில் வாக்குபதிவுகள் பதிவாகியிருந்தன.
