Kanyakumari district has a total of 6 legislative assembly constituencies. Political parties have divided these six constituencies into two parts, functioning administratively as two districts: Kanyakumari East and Kanyakumari West. The constituencies of Kanyakumari, Nagercoil, and Kulachal fall under the East district, while Padmanabhapuram, Killiyoor, and Vilavancode constituencies are part of the West district. The state party AIADMK contests directly only in the Kanyakumari constituency of the Kanyakumari East district. All other constituencies are allocated to the alliance parties BJP and DMK.
Similarly, the DMK, functioning as a state party, is contesting in the Kanyakumari and Nagercoil constituencies in the Kanyakumari East district. கன்னியாகுமரி வருவாய் மாவட்டத்தில் தி.மு.க வென்ற ஒரே தொகுதியையும் கூட்டணியான சி.பி.எம்-க்குக் கொடுத்துள்ளதுதான் ஆச்சர்யத்தின் உச்சமாக உள்ளது.
கன்னியாகுமரி மேற்கு மாவட்டத்தைப் பொறுத்தவரை கேரளா எல்லையில் அமைந்துள்ளது. இங்குள்ள 3 தொகுதிகளில் விளவங்கோடு மற்றும் கிள்ளியூர் சட்டமன்றத் தொகுதிகளில் தி.மு.க மற்றும் அ.தி.மு.க இதுவரை வென்றதில்லை.
விளவங்கோட்டில் தேசியக் கட்சிகளான காங்கிரஸ் மற்றும் சி.பி.எம் கட்சிகள் வென்றுள்ளன. கிள்ளியூர் தொகுதியில் காங்கிரஸ், ஜனதா கட்சி, ஜனதா தளம், த.மா.க கட்சிகள் வென்றுள்ளன.
விளவங்கோடு மற்றும் கிள்ளியூர் தொகுதிகள் கடந்த 20 ஆண்டுகளாக காங்கிரஸ் வசம் உள்ளன. பத்மநாபபுரம் தொகுதியில் மட்டுமே தி.மு.க மற்றும் அ.தி.மு.க கட்சிகள் வென்றுள்ளன. இப்போது தி.மு.க அந்தத் தொகுதியை சி.பி.எம்-க்கும், அ.தி.மு.க கூட்டணி கட்சியான பா.ஜ.க-விடமும் ஒப்படைத்துவிட்டது.
இப்போது கன்னியாகுமரி மேற்கு மாவட்டத்தில் உள்ள 3 தொகுதிகளும் தேசியக் கட்சிகள் வசம் சென்றுவிட்டன.
