ஆனால் காங்கிரஸ் – தி.மு.க-வுக்கு இடையே தொடர்ந்து இழுபறி நீடித்து வருகிறது. ஆரம்பத்தில் இருபது தொகுதிகள் வேண்டும் என்று பேச்சுவார்த்தையை தொடங்கிய காங்கிரஸ், அதன்பிறகு 16+12+2 என்ற கணக்கில் இறங்கியது. அதாவது காங்கிரஸ் 16 தொகுதிகளிலும், தி.மு.க 12 தொகுதிகளிலும், வி.சி.க மற்றும் இந்திய கம்யூனிஸ்ட் தலா இரண்டு தொகுதிகளிலும் போட்டியிடலாம் என்றது காங்கிரஸ்.

ஆனால் அந்தக் கூட்டத்தை காங்கிரஸ் கட்சி புறக்கணித்தது. அதனால் அன்றைய தினம் இரவே தி.மு.க தேர்தல் குழுவினர் சென்னை அறிவாலயத்துக்குப் புறப்பட்டுச் சென்றனர். அதைத் தொடர்ந்து தமிழக காங்கிரஸ் தலைவர் செல்வப் பெருந்தகை, ப.சிதம்பரம், கனிமொழி உள்ளிட்டவர்கள், புதுச்சேரி தொகுதிப் பங்கீடு குறித்து முதல்வர் ஸ்டாலினை சந்தித்து ஆலோசனை செய்தனர்.
