In the Mumbai Municipal Corporation elections, Ravi Raja contested from Ward 185 in Dharavi on behalf of the BJP. Previously, Ravi Raja had contested five times on behalf of the Congress and served as a councilor in the Mumbai Municipal Corporation. He was also the leader of the opposition in the corporation during the last term. Since the Congress party did not give him a chance to contest in the last assembly elections, Ravi Raja left the Congress and joined the BJP. Ravi Raja is not from Dharavi. He is from the Sion-Koliwada area near Dharavi. Earlier, he contested and won from Sion-Koliwada. However, he has never contested in Dharavi before.
In this election, since the wards in Cyan Golivada were reserved for women, Ravi Raja did not get a seat to contest. Consequently, he was given the opportunity to contest from Tharavi by the BJP leadership. However, for the past few years, a person named Ramesh had been preparing himself to contest from Tharavi on behalf of the BJP. Since the seat was given to Ravi Raja instead of Ramesh, it is said that the BJP members in Tharavi did not work properly for Ravi Raja. When speaking to the BJP officials in Tharavi, it was evident that there was dissatisfaction about not giving the opportunity to a local candidate. To ensure Ravi Raja's victory in the election, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis came and campaigned before leaving.
Apart from this, BJP leader Annamalai also came from Tamil Nadu and campaigned. In Mariammal, when the votes were counted today, Ravi Raja lost to Shiv Sena (Uddhav) candidate Jagadish by a margin of 1,500 votes. Due to doubts raised on Ravi Raja's side regarding the election results, the results were not announced for some time. After that, the results were declared. This defeat is considered a major setback for Ravi Raja. Jagadish is a Malayali. Similarly, in another ward, the 188th ward in Dharavi, Mariammal Muthuramalingam contested on behalf of Congress. Mariammal was previously a councilor in the Shiv Sena led by Uthav Thakkare. This time, since she did not get a seat in that party, she came to the Congress party and contested. In the same ward, Solomon Raja contested as an independent candidate after not getting a seat in the Congress party. Additionally, Robinson, the son of Maran Nayagam, an office bearer of the Adi Dravidar Mahajana Sangam, also contested as an independent. The votes of the Tamils were split between these two independent candidates. As a result, Mariammal lost to Muthuramalingam Bhaskar Shetty. When it comes to Dharavi, it is often said that Tamils are there. However, none of the Tamil candidates who contested in Dharavi won in this election.
Similarly, in the 162nd ward, Annamalai contested on behalf of Shiv Sena (Uddhav). He too faced defeat in this election. Tamils contested in large numbers. However, not a single one of them was able to win in the election. It is said that the party officials and dissatisfied candidates are the reasons for the defeat of the two Tamil candidates in Dharavi. மும்பை மாநகராட்சி தேர்தலில் தாராவியில் உள்ள 185வது வார்டில் பா.ஜ.க சார்பாக ரவி ராஜா போட்டியிட்டார். ரவி ராஜா இதற்கு முன்பு 5 முறை காங்கிரஸ் சார்பாக போட்டியிட்டு மும்பை மாநகராட்சியில் கவுன்சிலராக இருந்திருக்கிறார். அதோடு கடந்த முறை மாநகராட்சி எதிர்க்கட்சி தலைவராகவும் இருந்துள்ளார். கடந்த சட்டமன்ற தேர்தலில் போட்டியிட காங்கிரஸ் கட்சி வாய்ப்பு கொடுக்காத காரணத்தால் ரவி ராஜா காங்கிரஸ் கட்சியில் இருந்து விலகி பா.ஜ.கவில் சேர்ந்தார். ரவி ராஜா தாராவியை சேர்ந்தவர் கிடையாது. அவர் தாராவிக்கு அருகில் உள்ள சயான் கோலிவாடா பகுதியை சேர்ந்தவர். இதற்கு முன்பு சயான் கோலிவாடாவில்தான் போட்டியிட்டு வெற்றி பெற்று இருக்கிறார்.
ஆனால் தாராவியில் ஒருபோதும் போட்டியிட்டது கிடையாது. இம்முறை தொகுதி ஒதுக்கீட்டில் சயான் கோலிவாடாவில் உள்ள வார்டுகள் பெண்களுக்கு ஒதுக்கப்பட்டதால் ரவி ராஜா போட்டியிட சீட் கிடைக்கவில்லை. இதையடுத்து அவருக்கு பா.ஜ.க தலைமை தாராவியில் போட்டியிட வாய்ப்பு கொடுத்தது. ஆனால் தாராவியில் பா.ஜ.க சார்பாக போட்டியிட கடந்த சில ஆண்டுகளாக ரமேஷ் என்பவர் தன்னை தயார்படுத்தி வந்தார். ரமேஷுக்கு சீட் கொடுக்காமல் ரவி ராஜாவிற்கு சீட் கொடுத்ததால் தாராவி பா.ஜ.கவினர் ரவி ராஜாவிற்கு சரியாக வேலை செய்யவில்லை என்று கூறப்படுகிறது.
தாராவி பா.ஜ.க நிர்வாகிகளிடம் பேசிப்பார்த்தபோது அவர்களிடம் தாராவியை சேர்ந்தவருக்கு வாய்ப்பு கொடுக்காத அதிருப்தி இருந்ததை காண முடிந்தது. தேர்தலில் ரவி ராஜா வெற்றி பெற வேண்டும் என்பதற்காக முதல்வர் தேவேந்திர பட்னாவிஸ் வந்து பிரசாரம் செய்துவிட்டு சென்றார். இது தவிர தமிழகத்தில் இருந்து பா.ஜ.க தலைவர் அண்ணாமலையும் வந்து பிரசாரம் செய்தார்.
ஆனாலும் இன்று வாக்குகள் எண்ணப்பட்டதில் ரவி ராஜா சிவசேனா(உத்தவ்) வேட்பாளர் ஜெகதீஷ் என்பவரிடம் 1500 வாக்குகள் வித்தியாசத்தில் தோல்வியை தழுவினார். தேர்தல் முடிவுகளில் ரவி ராஜா தரப்பில் சந்தேகம் எழுப்பட்டதால் சிறிது நேரம் முடிவுகள் அறிவிக்கப்படாமல் இருந்தது. அதன் பிறகு முடிவுகள் அறிவிக்கப்பட்டுவிட்டது. இத்தோல்வி ரவி ராஜாவிற்கு பெரிய பின்னடைவாக கருதப்படுகிறது. ஜெகதீஷ் மலையாளியாவார்.
இதே போன்று தாராவியில் மற்றொரு வார்டான 188வது வார்டில் மாரியம்மாள் முத்துராமலிங்கம் காங்கிரஸ் சார்பாக போட்டியிட்டார். அவரை எதிர்த்து சிவசேனா(ஷிண்டே) சார்பாக பாஸ்கர் ஷெட்டி என்பவர் போட்டியிட்டார். மாரியம்மாள் இதற்கு முன்பு உத்தவ் தாக்கரே தலைமையிலான சிவசேனாவில் கவுன்சிலராக இருந்தார். இம்முறை அவருக்கு அக்கட்சியில் சீட் கிடைக்காததால் காங்கிரஸ் கட்சிக்கு வந்து போட்டியிட்டார். இதேவார்டில் காங்கிரஸ் கட்சியில் சீட் கிடைக்காமல் சாலமோன் ராஜா என்பவர் சுயேச்சையாக போட்டியிட்டார்.
அதோடு ஆதிதிராவிட மகாஜன சங்கத்தின் நிர்வாகி மாறன் நாயகம் மகன் ராபின்சன் சுயேச்சையாக போட்டியிட்டார். தமிழர்களின் வாக்குகளை இரண்டு பேர் சுயேச்சையாக நின்று பிரித்தனர். இதனால் மாரியம்மாள் முத்துராமலிங்கம் பாஸ்கர் ஷெட்டியிடம் தோல்வியை தழுவினார். தாராவி என்றாலே தமிழர்கள் என்று சொல்வதுண்டு. ஆனால் தாராவியில் போட்டியிட்ட தமிழர்கள் யாரும் இத்தேர்தலில் வெற்றி பெறவில்லை. இதே போன்று 162வது வார்டில் சிவசேனா(உத்தவ்) சார்பாக அண்ணாமலை என்பவர் போட்டியிட்டார். அவரும் இத்தேர்தலில் தோல்வியையே தழுவினார்.
தமிழர்கள் சொற்ப எண்ணிக்கையில் போட்டியிட்டனர். ஆனாலும் அவர்களில் ஒருவர் கூட தேர்தலில் வெற்றி பெற முடியவில்லை. தாராவியில் இரு தமிழ் வேட்பாளர்கள் தோல்வியடையவதற்கு கட்சி நிர்வாகிகளும், அதிருப்தி வேட்பாளர்களும் காரணம் என்று கூறப்படுகிறது. மும்பை மாநகராட்சி தேர்தலில் பா.ஜ.க அமோக வெற்றி பெற்று இருப்பதால் மராத்தி சமுதாயத்தை சேர்ந்த ஒருவர் மேயராக நியமிக்கப்படுவார் என்று பா.ஜ.க தெரிவித்துள்ளது.
