60%க்கும் மேற்பட்டோர் வேளாண் மற்றும் அதுசார்ந்த தொழில்களில் ஈடுபட்டுள்ளனர். அவர்களது வாழ்வாதாரத்துக்கு விவசாயம்தான் அடிப்படை. ஏரி, குளங்கள், ஆறுகள் போன்றவை விவசாயத்துக்கான உயிர்நாடி. ஆனால், தொழில் வளர்ச்சி, நகர்மயமாக்கம் என்கிற பெயரில் அவையெல்லாம் தொடர்ந்து கபளீகரம் செய்யப்படுகின்றன’’ என்று சுட்டிக்காட்டுகிறார்கள்.
‘கடந்த நான்கு ஆண்டுகளில் வேளாண்துறை வளர்ச்சி 5.66% ஆக உயர்ந்துள்ளது. கேழ்வரகு, கொய்யா உற்பத்தியில் நாட்டிலேயே முதலிடம், மக்காச்சோளம், கரும்பு, புளி, மரவள்ளிக்கிழங்கு, மல்லிகை, எண்ணெய் வித்துகள் உற்பத்தியில் இரண்டாமிடம்’ என்று கடந்த மே மாதத்தில் ‘பெருமை’ அறிக்கையை வெளியிட்டது, தமிழ்நாடு அரசு. வேளாண் உற்பத்தி இறங்குமுகமாக உள்ள நிலையில், ஒன்றிரண்டு விஷயங்களில் முதலிடம், இரண்டாமிடத்தில் இருப்பதைச் சொல்லி, சமாளிக்கப் பார்த்தது.
‘தொழில்வளர்ச்சியில் தமிழ்நாடு முதலிடம்’ என்று ரிசர்வ் வங்கியின் தரவுகளை பெருமைபொங்க எக்ஸ் தளத்தில் சுடச்சுட பகிரும் முதல்வர் மு.க.ஸ்டாலின், அதே ரிசர்வ் வங்கி குறிப்பிடும், ‘வேளாண் உற்பத்தி இறங்குமுகம்’ என்பது பற்றி அக்கறை கொண்டதாகத் தெரியவில்லை.
விவசாயத்தைத் தூக்கி நிறுத்த, சிறப்புத் திட்டங்கள் எதையும் விவசாயிகள் எதிர்பார்க்கவில்லை. விவசாயத்தில் உள்ள இடர்பாடுகளைக் களைந்தாலே போதும், உணவு உற்பத்தியில் அவர்கள் சாதனை படைத்துவிடுவார்கள். ஆம், ‘உணவு உற்பத்தியில் தமிழகம் சாதனை’ என்று தரவுகள் வெளியான ஆண்டுகளில் எல்லாம், இதுதான் நடந்தது.
‘தொழில்துறையும் வேளாண் துறையும் இரண்டு கண்கள்’ என்று சொல்லும் முதல்வர் மு.க.ஸ்டாலின், வேளாண் உற்பத்தியிலும் எச்சரிக்கையாக இருக்க வேண்டும். காரணம், இது வேளாண்மை சம்பந்தப்பட்ட பிரச்னை மட்டுமல்ல… மக்களின் அன்றாட உணவுப் பிரச்னையும்கூட!
