New Delhi: Supreme Court Judge Surya Kant has been appointed as India's 53rd Chief Justice. The term of Supreme Court Chief Justice P. R. Gavai ends on November 23. Accordingly, the Ministry of Law recently wrote a letter to P. R. Gavai to recommend the name of the next Chief Justice. Following Supreme Court tradition, Chief Justice P. R. Gavai recommended the name of Surya Kant, the senior judge after him, to the central government for appointment as the 53rd Chief Justice.
