Madurai: A woman doing household work found a sack containing Rs. 17.50 lakh on the road in Madurai and handed it over to the police. The police and the public praised her. Selvamalini (46), who belongs to Simmakkal in Madurai, works as a housemaid and also helps with agricultural labor in temples. The day before yesterday night, her sister’s son went to a jewelry shop in Madurai’s Mattuthavani area and was returning by Simmakkal bus to call his daughter. While they were leaving, he noticed a sack on the Vakil Pudhu Street market. When he tried to push it aside, he saw that the sack contained bundles of Rs. 500 notes. Later, when he tried to take the sack to the police station, policemen on patrol stopped him. As a result, he went with them and handed over the sack.
