Madurai: The High Court has ordered the Tamil Nadu government's Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department to respond to a petition seeking permission to light the Karthigai lamp on the lamp post at the summit of Thiruparankundram hill. Ram Ravikumar from Madurai Ezumalai filed the petition in the Madurai Bench of the High Court: Among the sixty-two houses of Murugan, the first house is Thiruparankundram. In the Thiruparankundram hill case, permission was granted to light the Karthigai lamp on the lamp post at the summit of Thiruparankundram hill. However, this year, during the Karthigai festival, it was decided and announced that the Karthigai lamp would be lit not on the lamp post at the hill summit but in the lamp pavilion of the Pillaiyar temple.
